WYASD Announces Staffing Selections

The West York Area School District (WYASD) board of directors has named Heather Hossler as the new assistant director of special education and pupil services and Ivan Quinones as the new school safety and security coordinator. The selections were approved at the June 18 board meeting. Hossler will work with Traci Stauffer, director of special education and pupil services, in coordinating the district’s special education program, fulfilling the needs of students according to district policy and government regulations. Hossler holds a Bachelor of Science degree in special education from East Tennessee State University and a Master of Science degree in educational administration from McDaniel College. In addition to having served on the IU 12 Special Education Advisory Council, she has completed several professional training sessions, including the Olweus Bully Prevention Program, Safe Crisis Management Instructor Training, and trainings related to attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, Asperger’s syndrome, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and Tourette’s syndrome. Hossler has held positions as an emotional support teacher for the School District of the City of York, the special education coordinator at the Lincoln Charter See WYASD pg 8

Lions Club Awards Scholarships The York New Salem Lions Club, District 14-C, awarded scholarships to Lauren Guise and Cambrya Anderson at the club’s May 8 meeting. Both are 2019 graduates of Spring Grove Area High School. Lauren will continue her education at York College of Pennsylvania, where she will study nursing. Cambrya will attend Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., to study either nursing or physical therapy.

The York New Salem Lions Club Memorial Scholarship program was established in 1980. As of 2019, the club has awarded a total of $68,900 in 73 scholarships. Scholarship applicants and awardees are graduating high school seniors who reside within the Spring Grove Area School District and attend either Spring Grove Area Senior High School, York Catholic High School, or the York County School of Technology.

Members of York USA Dance Chapter 3008 invites dancers of all ages, styles and experience levels to attend a “Summer Nights” ballroom dance social on Sunday, July 21, at Alert Fire Hall in Emigsville. A “Summer Nights” ballroom dance social will be held on Sunday, July 21, at Alert Fire Hall, 3118 N. George St., Emigsville. The event is sponsored by York USA Dance Chapter 3008 and is open to dancers of all ages, styles and experience levels. Featured this month will be a “Grease Medley” couples formation dance demonstration performed by members

of PA DanceSport of Hummelstown. A night club two-step lesson will be taught by Keith Stremmel from 3 to 4 p.m. for beginning and intermediate dancers. Following, from 4 to 7 p.m., will be open dancing to music provided by Studio 5 DJs. Refreshments will be available beginning at 4 p.m., and donations of appetizers, desserts or snacks are welcome.
