Community Independence Day Service Planned A Community Independence Day Service will take place on Thursday, July 4, at 10 a.m. at St. John Episcopal Church, 140 N. Beaver St., York. The liturgy will be read from the 1789 Book of Common Prayer, as it would have been heard by the Founding Fathers. York’s First Capital Brass will present
patriotic music during and following the service in tribute to those who sacrificed to establish and preserve the U.S. St. John was founded in 1755, prior to the establishment of the United States. York’s Liberty Bell was rung in Continental Square in 1776 to announce the signing of the Declaration of
Independence. Now on display in St. John’s Lovelace Commons, the bell will be sounded during the service and attendees will be invited to ring it afterward. A freewill offering will be received. Light refreshments will be served
following the service. Parking is available in the lot immediately across Beaver Street from the church. For more information about the church, readers may call 717-848-1862 or visit www.stjohnyork.org.
