Junior Troop 20775 Scouts Earn Bronze Award

Members of Junior Troop 20775 recently ran a donation drive for the Rescue Ranch as part of their Take-Action Project to earn the Bronze Award, the third-highest award in Girl Scouting. The Rescue Ranch is a recently opened shelter for abandoned, medically needy, and elderly dogs in York County.

Residential Direct Support Professional (Full-time) • Full-time hourly position providing direct support of individuals with intellectual & developmental disabilities.

Prior to the drive, representatives from the Rescue Ranch met with Troop 20775 to discuss the shelter’s mission and needs and to introduce the girls to some the dogs that live at the ranch. The fifth-graders led a two-week donation drive at each of the intermediate schools that they attend: Sinking Springs Elementary School in Central York School District and Shallow Brook Intermediate School and Spring Forge Intermediate School, both in Northeastern School District. More than 400 items were collected at these drives, including cleaning products, dog food, and ingredients to make dog treats that address the health needs of the dogs. Relay For Life Of York Event Will Celebrate Cancer Survivors Local cancer survivors and their caregivers will take a celebratory lap at the annual American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay For Life of York event on Friday, June 21, at the York Expo Center, 334 Carlisle Ave., York. The Survivors’ Ceremony and lap will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a free meal for all survivors and caregivers in attendance. Anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers are encouraged to join the celebration. Relay For Life of York will run from 4 p.m. on June 21 to noon on Saturday, June 22. The Shiloh Lions Club recently conducted its 11th annual Hoops for Sight fundraiser to support research to find a cure for retinal diseases. This year’s March event raised more than $11,000. York College’s Kappa Delta Rho Fraternity helped the Lions Club and assisted participants who shot foul shots and raised funds through pledges.
