Students Win Awards At Conference

Nine students from the West York Area High School Model United Nations Club attended the Hershey Regional Conference, held at the Hershey Conference Lodge and Hotel on Jan. 4 to 6. Two West York students took home awards. Alisa Steele, a ninth-grader, won an Outstanding First Year Delegate Award for her committee, and senior Lydia Slajchert won an Outstanding Country Team Award. Alisa represented Ecuador on the Pan-American Summit, and Lydia represented Oman on the Middle East and North Africa Summit. The other West York attendees, their represented countries and their committees are as follows: 12th-grader Angelina Marchozzi, Algeria, Environment and Technology Committee; 12th-grader Melody Slajchert, Canada, General Assembly A; 11th-grader Katherine Hutton, Canada, General Assembly C; 11th-grader Ashley Jordan, Denmark, Social and Humanitarian Council; 11th-grader Awaiz Zahra, Legal B Committee; ninth-grader Tyler Bard, Syria, Historical Security Council, 1967; and ninth-grader Kylie Smith, Canada, General Assembly B. The club adviser for the West York Model United Lydia Slajchert won an Outstanding Country Nations Club is Melissa J. CASA Plans Information Sessions
Hiking Club Will Offer Events
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) will hold two information sessions
The York Hiking Club will host several hikes and special events during February. For more details and weather updates, readers may contact the designated hike leader or visit www.yorkhikingclub.com or Facebook. Participants should dress for the weather, including appropriate footwear, and bring water, snacks, and/or lunch, as applicable. Carpool fees apply to most hikes. A 10-mile hike on the Lakeside Trail
on Tuesday, Feb. 12, in the York County Judicial Center on North George Street in York. The sessions will take place from noon to 1 p.m. and from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The presenters will share information about the upcoming spring training and how to become a volunteer. NAMI Support Groups To Meet NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) York County will offer support groups to the community. All support groups are confidential. Memorial Church, 1907 Hollywood Drive, York, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Connection Support Groups are for individuals with a mental health diagnosis. One group will meet every Wednesday at Luther Memorial Church from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and the other group will meet every Thursday at the NAMI office, 140 Roosevelt Ave., York, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
