Ceremony Held To Rededicate Road Of Remembrance The day was bright and a bit chilly, as more than 150 flags flapped in the breeze. On Nov. 10, a two-year project came to an end as the Road of Remembrance on the Susquehanna Trail, now with an additional 200 trees standing tall, was rededicated to honor all who served, and continue to serve, in the military, as well as those who gave their lives for the country. The event, which was held at Susquehannock High School, began with the William Penn JROTC color guard offering the presentation of colors, which was followed by the national anthem. A welcome was provided by pastor John Dorr, and the program continued with the Pledge of Allegiance and an invocation/prayer. Stephen H. Smith, a local historian, explained the history of the original planting, which occurred when the War Mothers Club honored World War I veterans by

planting 400 sycamore trees. Following his comments, Shelly Monk Riedel, who served as the chair of the project, thanked the donors, the landowners, the more than 300 volunteer planters, and the committee members who worked for two years on the project. She explained the signs that will help future generations understand the meaning of this historic landscape architecture. Alexandria Hynoski, a student at Red Lion High School, sang “I’m Proud to Be an American,” which was followed by a standing ovation from the crowd. Vice Adm. DeWolfe “Chip” Miller III served as the main speaker. A York County native, he spoke of the important role that men and women from York County have played in the armed services. He also cited many local individuals from all branches of the armed services who had earned the highest commendations for their service, See Ceremony pg 5

A rededication ceremony for the Road to Remembrance on the Susquehanna Trail was held on Nov. 10 at Susquehannock High School. The program honored veterans and celebrated the completion of the two-year project, which added 200 trees to the Road to Remembrance.
