York Heart Walk Supports AHA

Heart Walk. The event raised more than $58,000 for the American Heart Association (AHA).

News personality Brittany Garzillo hosted the Heart Walk opening festivities, which included health information, blood pressure checks and CPR demonstrations courtesy of WellSpan Health and UPMC, children’s activities and healthy snacks. Among the participants were 2-year-old Bristol Miller and her parents, Josh and Leah Miller, of Airville. In March 2018, then-14-month-old Bristol suffered a pediatric cardiac arrest. First responders eventually restored a normal heart rhythm and got Bristol safely to the hospital, where she spent five weeks. She received an implantable defibrillator to protect her against future episodes. Today, she has returned to a normal, healthy life, and she recently became a big sister. Members of the American Legion Riders (ALR) group at Stewartstown Post 455 presented a check to the Stewartstown Senior Center on Sept. 25 to assist with the costs in hosting the senior center’s annual Veterans Day Luncheon, planned for Friday, Nov 8. The donation will cover nearly 50% of the costs associated with the event, according to senior center director Rosie Horton. The money was raised by the Legion Riders at various events in 2019. Veterans and family members interested in attending the luncheon should speak to Horton or call the senior center at 717-993-3488. Veterans and others who are eligible for membership in the American Legion and who would like to join the Riders group or the Stewartstown American Legion may

Bristol cut the ribbon to officially start this year’s Heart Walk. WellSpan Health took home honors as the top team. Missy Mulcahy Fischer, who raised funds through her annual Run With Heart 5K in memory of her late husband Mark Mulcahy, was honored as the top walker. Funds raised will support the American Heart Association in building longer, healthier lives through community education, public policy advocacy, health care quality improvement and investment in lifesaving research. The Heart Walk was chaired by Paul Tolerico, interventional cardiologist at WellSpan Health. Church To Celebrate Rally Day Prospect United Methodist Church, 8 Orchard Road, New Park, will hold its annual Rally Day service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3. The Itzels will provide the musical entertainment. A freewill offering will be received, and CDs and other materials will be available for purchase. Everyone is invited to attend this service, as well as the covered dish meal afterward. The Itzels - Bill and Karen and their children, Jessica, Ryan, Shannon, and Siri - have been touring full-time for almost 30 years. Acierno Receives Spirit Award

Retired teacher Mike Acierno (fourth from left) received the Susquehannock Alumni Association Spirit Award. He was congratulated by (from left) Glenn Geiple, Jeff Joy, Mark Rill, Sarah Brown, Sue Barnhart, Trevor Carrington, and Josh Alwine. The Susquehannock Alumni Association presented the 10th annual Alumni Spirit Award during Susquehannock High School’s homecoming football game. The award is presented to an individual who exemplifies outstanding school spirit. Retired teacher Mike Acierno was this year’s Alumni Spirit Award recipient. Acierno retired from Southern Middle School in 2008 after a 36-year teaching

career there. He also served as the ski club adviser and continues to assist with athletic events for several sports teams at Susquehannock. Acierno is known for his positive attitude. The Susquehannock High School Alumni Association’s mission is to promote and foster pride, loyalty, and lifelong commitment to the school and continued relationships among its graduates.
