2916 Sadlers Church Road, Stewartstown, will hold its annual spaghetti supper on Saturday, Sept. 8. Dinner will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. in the picnic pavilion at the church. The menu will include tossed salad, all-youcan-eat spaghetti with meat sauce, garlic bread, a beverage, and dessert. There will also be a baked goods table. At 5:30 p.m., there will be a sing-along. ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

St. Paul Church, 161 S. Main St., Shrewsbury, will honor its pastor, the Rev. Dr. Martha Butkofsky Boyer, on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 10:15 a.m. Worshippers may bring their Bibles to be blessed. The worship service will be followed by a luncheon. The church will recognize the 40th anniversary of Boyer’s ordination, which occurred on Sept. 3, 1978, at Salem United Church of Christ in Harrisburg.

Since then, Boyer has served churches in West Berlin, Germany; Ohio; and Pennsylvania.

She has served St. Paul Church for the past six years. In addition to Germany, her work has taken her to the mission fields of San Jose, Costa Rica, and Istanbul, Turkey. She and her husband of 35 years, David, have a son, Andrew. Call the church office at 717-235-7003.

Bingo Fundraiser Will Support Library The Mason-Dixon Public Library is sponsoring a designer bag bingo on Friday, Sept. 14, in the cafeteria at Kennard-Dale High School, 393 Main St., Fawn Grove. Soups, sandwiches, and desserts will be available for sale beginning at 5:30 p.m. Bingo will start at 7 p.m. Multiple door prizes will be available, as well as items through giveaway drawings.

Goheen Neff recently celebrated their 50th anniversary with a party held by family and friends on Aug. 18. They were married on Aug. 3, 1968, at Lebanon Lutheran Church near Felton.

The couple has a son, Trevor Neff.

Both graduated from Red Lion High School, where they met. They live in Dallastown. They have been singing gospel music for 49 years and currently sing with Greatly Blessed, a Southern gospel music group.

The Stewartstown Area CROP Hunger Walk will be held on Sunday, Oct. 21, with goals of 40 walker groups, six teams, and $3,600 raised. All funds raised help end hunger and poverty through long-term sustainable approaches to significantly reduce or eliminate hunger. A portion of the funds raised through the local walk will go to the food pantry of Mason-Dixon Community Services in Delta. Last year, 39 walkers raised $3,353.

Stewartstown Presbyterian Church, 14 College Ave., Stewartstown, will be the starting point for the CROP Hunger Walk, with registration at 1 p.m. This year there will be a choice of three route distances, starting at just under a mile.

Also new will be a snack-packing event just before and after the walk. This hands-on project will provide Mason-Dixon Ministries with snacks for clients it serves.

The Stewartstown Area CROP Hunger Walk committee is seeking

Concert To Benefit Old Line Museum

Starwatch, Moonlight Bike Ride Planned The York County Astronomical Society (YCAS) will partner with the Sunset Scramblers for the society’s public Starwatch on Saturday, Sept. 8, at Stump Park, 525 Days Mill Road, York, directly beside Brillhart Station along the York County Heritage Rail Trail. The event will coincide with the final 2018 Sunset Scrambler moonlight bike ride.

The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Brillhart Station as the Sunset Scramblers embark on a 1.5-mile ride. All are invited to ride, and no registration is required. For more information, readers may visit https://yorkcountypa.gov and click on Events under the Parks and Recreation tab.

Upon the conclusion of the bike ride, attendees and members of the public will be invited to Stump Park for the Starwatch.

Attendees are invited to bring their telescopes and/or binoculars and join the members of YCAS in observing the planets Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars, as well as a host of other celestial objects.

For individuals who prefer to observe at the YCAS Observatory, YCAS members will be on hand to conduct public observing at the John C. Rudy County Park, 400 Mundis Race Road, York, location at 8 p.m. The evening will begin with a screened astronomical presentation on the current night sky and a variety of astronomical topics. Guests will then be guided on a

New Friends To Begin Season New Friends of York County will begin a new year with a meet and greet event, including an icebreaker and introduction of group activities to new and potential members who attend. The meeting will take place on Thursday, Sept. 20, at Perkins Restaurant, 2500 E. Market St., York. Attendees who plan to order dinner are asked to arrive by 6:15 p.m. The program will begin at 7 p.m.

New Friends members typically participate monthly in a variety of interests, including Bunco, book

club, ladies’ and couples canasta, walking group, community service, craft night, dinner club, 500bid, ladies luncheon, Mah Jongg, and more. Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month.

The organization introduces women residents of the York community to each other and offers them an opportunity for companionship and friendship through social events and interest group activities. Prospective members are welcome to attend three events before committing

A community concert featuring the group Denim N Lace is slated for Friday, Sept. 7, from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Peach Bottom Township’s Recreation Center, 5 Pendyrus St., Delta. Food sales will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Food options will include hot dogs from a local food truck with toppings such as cheese, onions, bacon, crab meat, pastrami, salsa, and more. Cheeseburgers, walking tacos, nachos, soft pretzels and pizza will also be available for purchase.

The concert will be held rain or shine, and attendees should bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. Pets are not permitted at the show. Children must be accompanied by parents or guardians. Door prizes will be awarded during the evening.

Advance tickets are available at a discount at local businesses including Delta Gas, Delta Pizza, Delta Lumber, Delta Senior Center, Kimmy’s Cafe in Fawn Grove, Model A Fitness, and The Mill.

Full-price tickets will be available at the gate. Children under age 6 will be admitted for free.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Old Line Museum, located at 602 Main St. in Delta Borough.

The Octorara Covenanter Presbyterian Foundation held its first Covenanter Scottish Festival four years ago. As time has passed, the event has grown to include a wide array of entertainment and educational opportunities, and this year’s festival promises to be no exception.

The fifth annual Covenanter Scottish Festival will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the grounds of Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church, 1199 Valley Road, located 4 miles east of Quarryville on Route 372. The athletic events will begin at 8 a.m.

The Washington Memorial Pipe Band, Charlie Zahm and Tad Marks, Fire in the Glen, and harpist Kendrah Tozzo will perform throughout the day, and bagpipers will skirl their best for a panel of judges. There will also be a Highland dance competition, and the Penn’s Wall Highland Games will test athletes’ abilities to move cumbersome objects great distances.

Scottish clans and organizations will be represented, and vendors will sell Scottish goods, food, and locally made ice cream. A variety of demonstrations have been planned; these may include spinning and weaving, Irish dancing, a haggis ceremony, and more.

Rebecca Bellaman of Bainbridge will bring her Border collies Czechers and Ena to show how they move sheep through and around obstacles in a calm and controlled fashion. Bellaman has been working with collies since 1999 and obtained her first working dog in 2013. She competes regularly with two of her three dogs. Czechers is 5 and has moved up to open-level trialing, while 1.5-year-old Ena is just making her debut into the sport.

According to the United States Border Collie Handlers’ Association (USBCHA), sanctioned stockdog trials are modeled directly after trials in Great Britain, where both the event and the breed originated. The object of a trial is to test the ability of a dog to manage sheep or goats in circumstances they may encounter in everyday work. The dogs may be asked to gather, drive, shed, single, or pen an individual or group of sheep.

Handlers are expected to give their dogs few commands and to work their dogs quietly. Bellaman and several of her friends will run a mock competition so that spectators may experience an arena sheepdog trial. They will also give a basic demonstration on the

Members of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1032 of York invite veterans and other members of the public to stop by the Veterans’ Tent at the York Fair from Friday, Sept 7, through Sunday, Sept. 16.

The South Central York County Senior Center, 150 E. Main St., New Freedom, has announced its upcoming activities. The center serves a hot lunch at 11:30 a.m. each day, and attendees are encouraged to arrive at about 11:20 a.m.

The center offers a variety of programs during the week. HoopFit is offered on Tuesdays at 9:15 a.m., isometric exercises take place at 9:15 a.m. each day, tai chi is held at 10:15 a.m. each day, and Stretch Yoga takes place at 9:15 a.m. on Mondays. Line dancing is offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays.

Center attendees may also use exercise equipment and walk in the gym every morning. The center’s weights class, which includes using weights and working on agility, is held at 9 a.m. on Fridays, and interested participants are encouraged to arrive a little early, as seating is limited.

The change is a response to China’s ban on contaminated recyclables and a realignment of accepted materials with permit requirements.

The facility is open to York County residents. There is no fee to recycle these materials at the drop-off facility. The site is camera-monitored and will be gated after hours. Illegal dumping of trash or recyclables is prohibited.

In York County, the majority of residential households have access to curbside recycling programs. The YCSWA’s Recycling Drop-off Facility is a requirement

of Act 101, Pennsylvania’s Municipal Waste Planning, Recycling and Waste Reduction Act and serves as a supplement to municipal residential curbside recycling programs.

Under Act 101, 18 York County municipalities are mandated to offer curbside recycling to residents. A total of 63 York County municipalities currently offer curbside recycling either because they are a mandated municipality or because they passed a municipal ordinance establishing curbside recycling for their residents.

The Stewartstown and Shrewsbury Coin Club will discuss “Birds on Coins and Stamps� during its meeting on Thursday, Sept. 6, at Mason-Dixon Public Library, 250 Bailey Drive, Stewartstown.

Meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.

The upcoming meeting will feature a PowerPoint presentation highlighting birds found on U.S. coins and stamps. The ornithological topic will cover the

American bald eagle; Pennsylvania’s state bird, the ruffed grouse; and a number of state birds represented on coins and stamps. There will be examples of 100- to 200-year-old coins and stamps for examination. Time will be provided for questions.

The Incredible Years Series is a set of interlocking, comprehensive, and developmentally based programs targeting parents, teachers and children. The training programs that compose the Incredible Years Series are guided by developmental theory on the role of multiple interacting risk and protective factors in the development of conduct problems. CCAP’s 2018 Excellence in Website Design Awards were given to Bedford County and Chester County. Both counties’ recent website enhancements led to

accessible, modern designs, with increased functionality, highlights of county services and greater transparency to improve residents’ interactions with county government.

President’s Awards were bestowed by CCAP president and Lancaster County commissioner Dennis Stuckey to CCAP leaders Doug Hill, executive director; Brinda Penyak, deputy director; and John Sallade, managing director of insurance programs. The award was presented to honor commitment to CCAP’s president and outstanding contributions leading to enhanced service to county residents.

The County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania (CCAP) has honored several Pennsylvania county leaders and others who have enhanced the well-being of counties and residents. The awards were given at the organization’s 2018 annual conference in Adams County.

CCAP’s Outstanding County Commissioner/Council Member of the Year Award was presented to Warren County’s Jeff Eggleston. Eggleston was acknowledged for his service and association participation which has contributed to the advancement of county government, including projects related to communications with townships and boroughs; the North/South Corridor Project with Chatauqua County, N.Y.; a recycling center that assists with inmate work release programs, and human services advancements.

CCAP’s Outstanding Chief Clerk/Administrator Award was presented to Lawrence County’s Jim Gagliano Jr. for his service as county administrator since 2005, after serving as the county’s planning director.

Gagliano has professionally and successfully met numerous challenges and currently serves as the executive director of the Redevelopment Authority, the Municipal Authority and the County Land Bank.

The 2018 Outstanding Solicitor was given to Chester County’s Tom Whiteman for providing sound judgment with the best interests of the county and its residents in mind for more than 30 years.

Whiteman has used his talents on significant projects such as the construction of a justice center and a state-of-the-art public safety training campus, as well as the purchase of an emergency radio system.

Senior Center Posts Schedule The Delta Area Senior Center, located in the Peach Bottom Township Building at 5 Pendyrus St., has announced its upcoming activities. Free Wi-Fi, Wii video games, and walking are available from Monday to Friday. A hot lunch is served on weekdays at noon for a donation. Those interested in eating lunch at the center should make a reservation two business days in advance by calling the center at 717-456-5753.

A number of activities that had stopped for the summer will return in September. Chair exercises are again offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 11 a.m. The creative writing class is offered at 1:15 p.m. every Tuesday. The art class will return on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 3:30 p.m. and will continue for 10 weeks. Both the creative writing and art classes welcome people of all skill levels. Senior center members will go to Holy Cross Episcopal Church on Monday, Sept. 17, at 11:30 a.m. for the Senior Luncheon. The Big Breakfast will also return in September.

A staff member from state Rep. Stan Saylor’s office will be available on Wednesdays, Sept.

5 and 19, to answer questions, help people fill out forms, and do notary work. The service is free and open to the community. No appointment is needed.

Dominoes will be played at 9 a.m. and a group will meet at the Lion Bowling Center in Red Lion to bowl three games. Chair exercises will begin at 11 a.m., followed by challenges at 12:30 p.m. The Quilts of Valor group will meet at 6 p.m.

Sequence will be played at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6. At 9:30 a.m., participants in the craft class will make bracelets for the Ben’s Wish Foundation, a local nonprofit organization.

The Yes We Can group, a living well support group, will meet at 11 a.m. At 11:30 a.m., the senior center will honor everyone who entered the Mason Dixon Community Fair. Pinochle will be played from 1 to 3 p.m.

Penny bingo will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 7.

A community benefit concert for the Old Line Museum will take place on the senior center grounds on Sept. 7 from 7 to 11 p.m. Denim and Lace will perform, and a food truck will be available. The concert will be held rain or shine. Attendees may bring lawn chairs. There is an admission fee.

On Monday, Sept. 10, the morning activities will include dominoes at 9 a.m., pickle ball at 9:30 a.m., a Bible study at 10 a.m., and chair exercises at 11 a.m. Challenges will take place at 12:30 p.m., followed by the crochet class from 1 to 3 p.m.

Pinochle will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Bingo will be played at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11.

Wii Jeopardy will be played at 12:30 p.m., and the card game Phase 10 will begin at 1 p.m.

The creative writing class, led by Ann Rose, will meet from 1:15 to 2:30 p.m.

A flu shot clinic will be conducted on Tuesday, Sept. 18, from 9 a.m. to noon. No appointment is necessary. Anyone who would like a flu shot should bring photo identification and all their insurance cards.

Medicare and most secondary insurances will pay for the service. There is a fee for the shots for persons who do not have coverage.

Exhibition Will Explore American Dream York College, 441 Country Club Road, York, will host Kirsten Leenaars’ exhibit “(Re)Housing the American Dream” in York College Galleries in Evelyn and Earle Wolf Hall from Thursday, Sept. 6, to Friday, Oct. 12. The exhibit will open with a lecture at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 6 in DeMeester Recital Hall. The exhibition and lecture are free and open to the public.
