Flower Show Scheduled
The second art exhibit for the 2019 season opened at the Mason-Dixon Public Library, 250 Bailey Drive, Stewartstown, with a reception on June 9. It will remain on display through Friday, Aug. 2.The exhibit features the works of local artist Linda Nace. Nace is a lifelong York County resident who was born in York, graduated from Dover Area High School and currently lives in New Freedom. She has created several pieces in watercolor, but her favorite medium is acrylics. She prefers a realistic style and leans toward nature rather than structures in her work. The New Freedom Lioness Club recently installed its officers for 2019-20. Second vice district governor Duane Hall (back, right) conducted the installation. The officers include (front, from left) Lucy Maseth, Shirley Smith, (middle row) Bonnie Keller, Ellen Miller, Dianne Donahue, Patty Damron, Theresa DePastina, (back, left) Mindy Smith, and (not pictured) Deb McKnight. The New Freedom Lioness Club recently installed its officers for 2019-20 during an installation dinner held at Old Country Buffet. Second vice district governor Duane Hall conducted the installation. The officers include chaplain Lucy Maseth, director Shirley Smith, director Bonnie Keller, vice president Ellen Miller, tail twister Dianne Donahue, co-president Patty Damron, secretary Theresa DePastina,
co-president Mindy Smith, and treasurer Deb McKnight. The Lioness Club will hold an indoor yard sale on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the New Freedom Community Center, 150 E. Middle School Students Receive Legion Award Southern Middle School students Jocelyn Davis and Gabriel Somerville received the American Legion Award for 2019. This is the highest award that the American Legion gives to middle school students. The annual award represents honor, courage, scholarship, leadership, and Americanism. Glen Rock American Legion Post 403 second vice commander Eric Mueller and Auxiliary president Sharon Krout presented the students with their awards at the end of the 2018-19 school
year. The students will be in ninth grade at Susquehannock High School this fall.

The 2019 Shrewsbury Flower Show, “A Winter Wonderland,” will celebrate 68 years of floral arranging as an art form. The show will take place on Saturday, Aug. 24, and Sunday, Aug. 25, from 1 to 5 p.m. each day at the Shrewsbury Assembly of God, 234 N. Main St., Shrewsbury. Over 75 entrants will compete in the predetermined design categories based on the show’s theme. Another 50 additional entrants are expected to participate by exhibiting garden specimens. Show categories are classified by both fresh and dried flowers and vary in size and form. A youth category for individuals age 16 and under will also be available. Visitors may vote to choose the People’s Choice Award. A photo contest using the theme “Plants and Their Caregivers” will take place. There are youth and adult See Flower Show pg 4
