Festival Will Celebrate Acts Of Kindness Celebrating York’s Unity Through 10,000 Acts of Kindness, a multicultural, multifaith, nonpartisan, and all-inclusive unity festival, will be held on Sunday, June 30, from 2 to 6 p.m. in Memorial Park, 941 Vander Ave., York. The festival was originally scheduled to be held in Penn Park. The purpose of the event is to celebrate the growth York has made over the past 50 years and to celebrate the yearlong project to recognize acts of kindness in the local area. The festival is open to everyone in York who has done an act of kindness over the past year. One highlight of the festival will be 1.5 miles of tables that will be set up in an attempt to earn the Guinness Book of Records’ title for the longest table in the world. A total of 10,000 area residents will break bread together to celebrate the kindnesses that have been gifted throughout the year. Food will be served at 4 p.m. To be one of 10,000 people seated at the table, a person must have performed a recognized act of kindness that benefits others in a meaningful or tangible way. A total of 10,000 Kindness Coins have been minted and awarded by Kindness

Ambassadors through local community organizations, faith groups, schools, businesses, government agencies, and online nominations. The purpose of this yearlong project is to shed light on the kind and positive side of this area of central Pennsylvania. Throughout the year, countywide involvement, led by Ambassadors for Unity Through Kindness, has facilitated many projects, events, and opportunities to build community and highlight the kindness of thousands of people. Efforts have been promoted through social and traditional media. The festival will also include a Community Resource Fair. The deadline has been extended for churches, organizations, businesses, schools, and others to register to participate. Groups with child-friendly activities are encouraged to participate. There is no fee to participate, and all activities must be free to participants. Additional street performers are also being sought to be part of the gathering and perform on the lawn or street throughout the event. Performers being sought include stilt walkers, magicians, jugglers, dancers, mimes, living statues, clowns, contortionists,

and others with special skills that can be demonstrated. For more information on participating in the Community Resource Fair or as a street performer, readers may contact

Free Dial Gauge Testing Available A Penn State Extension educator will be available to test dial gauges for pressure canners at Brown’s Orchard and Farm Market, 8892 Susquehanna Trail South, Loganville, on Friday, June 28. Testing will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dial gauges may also be tested on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Penn State Extension office, 1383 Arcadia

Road, Room 140, Lancaster. Readers may call 717-394-6851 to schedule a Wednesday appointment. The test is free and only takes a few minutes. Only the lid is needed for testing. Hospital Shares Latest Plans UPMC Memorial, one of UPMC Pinnacle’s seven regional hospitals, began a countdown recently to the opening of the new hospital and outpatient center in York. On Sunday, Aug. 18, the new hospital will open its doors at 1701 Innovation Drive. In the coming months, UPMC Pinnacle will share information via its website and social media

channels to show the community what goes into opening a new hospital. Each week, hospital staff and physicians will be introduced and special features for the patient experience will be explained. The new UPMC Memorial hospital is a five-level, 102-bed, private patient room facility. In addition, the hospital houses 24

long-term acute beds. The 220,000-square-foot facility will provide acute and emergency medical care, cardiology and vascular services, chronic disease management, and surgical services. Next to the hospital building, and connected by an enclosed two-story walkway, will be the 120,000-square-foot, five-level

UPMC Outpatient Center. It will offer ambulatory surgery, outpatient imaging, a sleep lab, an infusion center, offices for specialty care providers, community meeting rooms, and more. To join UPMC Pinnacle in its countdown to the new UPMC Memorial campus, readers may visit www.upmcpinnacle.com/ thefuture.
