SPCA Updates Clinic Schedule The York County SPCA reopened its spay/neuter clinic with modified safety protocols on May 26. The organization was required to close the high-volume clinic in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Information from both the CDC and state and national veterinary medical organizations at that time dictated that elective spay/neuter surgeries must be temporarily suspended, both to conserve personal protective equipment and to prevent the

spread of COVID-19. During the closure, caretakers were unable to have free-roaming cats spayed or neutered. The Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association has since revised its statement, now allowing veterinarians to use their professional judgement to resume these elective procedures, while still adhering to state policies and recommendations regarding social distancing. York County SPCA’s decision to reopen its spay/neuter clinic

was made after careful consideration by the organization’s leadership team and by consulting recommendations from the CDC, the AVMA, and shelter medicine experts. In order to safely resume services, several modifications to scheduling, intake, and discharge procedures have been made. Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) services will be given scheduling priority with the goal of preventing pregnancy and new litters in the community cat population. Scheduling priority will also be

given to those clients with a pet that may be pregnant. Once the clinic has caught up on TNR patients, the veterinary team will begin seeing rescheduled patients next. Due to the backlog of spay/neuter appointments, new patients will be seen beginning in August. New appointments can be made by visiting www.ycspca.org. The SPCA anticipates that the coronavirus will continue to delay scheduling for the remainder of 2020.

Company Changes To Mask Production Perform Group LLC, a Class A cut-and-sew manufacturing company located in York, has shifted its production in response to COVID-19. Known for designing and manufacturing dancewear and gymnastics apparel under the Curtain Call Costumes and Alpha Factor brands, respectively, the company

began to prototype health care apparel following the statewide shutdown in mid-March. In April, after receiving a waiver from the state, it successfully converted manufacturing to support the health care supply chain with items such as face masks, scrubs, patient gowns and hospital linens. The company is still

expanding its production to allow for greater volume of protective face masks designed for everyday safety of all workforces now following CDC guidelines. Companies and businesses in need of purchasing protective face masks may contact Bob Geisenberger at bgeisenberger@performgroup

llc.com. Currently, Perform Group LLC is manufacturing, among other related products, a white, washable, two-layer, knit face mask designed to feature exceptional breathability and an ultrasoft feel. Lead times will vary. For more information, readers may visit www.perform groupllc.com.

administrative officer for WellSpan Health, the team would later be nicknamed the “MacGyver team” after the star of the television series who uses unconventional problem-solving skills to save lives. The team, led by Debra Ruckert, senior director of performance improvement at WellSpan Health, utilized unconventional designs and paths to production that incorporated local manufacturers and distilleries, which had capabilities of producing anything from hand sanitizer to intubation devices and masks. Members of the hospital’s team visited Letterkenny Army Depot to learn more about its manufacturing capabilities. Typically, the upholstery shop at Letterkenny focuses on production of items such as canvas tents, kitchens and vinyl products. As discussions moved forward and the partnership took shape, Letterkenny shared its mask design for producing cloth community masks. Back in York, a couple sheets of plastic, garbage bags and a rain poncho were used in figuring out a prototype that would allow WellSpan Health to eventually mesh a material design to create isolation gowns. Letterkenny reallocated resources to adequately staff its

As potential supply shortages became imminent for WellSpan Health because of COVID-19, leaders within the organization took a proactive approach by fostering relationships to secure necessary resources needed to care for communities and staff members. These efforts included forming a special partnership with Letterkenny Army Depot near Chambersburg. On May 1, Letterkenny started production of 70,000 protective gowns for WellSpan Health to help bolster the local health care system’s supply chain as it continues to navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, Letterkenny produced prototypes for cloth face masks for WellSpan Health, which has shared the designs with other community partners. Letterkenny Army Depot has been supporting frontline U.S. military efforts since the 1940s and stepped up to join a much different fight to protect people. In February, prior to its first patient testing positive for COVID-19, WellSpan Health was reacting to supply chain demand as production of personal protective equipment (PPE) in China was diminished due to the country’s battle with the pandemic, and PPE was redirected to U.S. cities already experiencing COVID-19. Meanwhile, John Massimilla, chief operating officer and vice president of administration for WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital, watched a local television newscast in early April that highlighted Letterkenny Army Depot’s upholstery shop, which produced around 4,800 cloth masks to protect its own employees. He wondered if a similar effort or collaboration could help protect a portion of WellSpan Health’s 20,000 employees. Massimilla shared the information about Letterkenny’s efforts with WellSpan Health’s performance improvement team, comprising hospital officials and engineers. Bailey Coach and United Way of York County have partnered together to offer a unique service to the community and support the York County COVID-19 Response Fund at the same time. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bailey Coach, based in Spring Grove, has dedicated one of its specialized electrostatic sprayers to disinfect personal vehicles, with a cash-only suggested donation going to support the York County COVID-19 Response Fund. The service kicked off on May 27 with the United Way van and a $100 donation to the Response Fund from the Bailey family. Bailey Coach, 1708 PA-116, Spring Grove, will sanitize vehicles on Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. No appointment is necessary. Masks must be worn by all persons inside the Bailey Coach garage, and disinfection takes two to five minutes depending on vehicle size. Bailey Coach has already disinfected more than 600 first responder vehicles using this system since April 7, at no cost to these public servants on the front lines. United Way of York County, in partnership with York County Community Foundation (YCCF) and other philanthropic partners, established the York County COVID-19 Response Fund to meet the immediate and increased needs in the community caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. One hundred percent of donations to the Fund support nonprofits serving York County with the greatest capacity to provide food and shelter to neighbors in need. To date, York County has raised more than $1 million for the Fund, and United Way and YCCF have awarded more than $242,000 in grants to 10 York County nonprofits. To learn more about the Fund, grant recipients and how to donate online, readers may visit www.united way-york.org/covid-19.

ATTENTION ARTHRITIS SUFFERERS New Arthritis Workshop Reveals The 3 Keys to Feel Younger and Feel Stronger Naturally Without Aches, Pains and Stiffness. Do you feel like your life is on hold because of everyday aches and pains? Do you have trouble walking, doing stairs or standing for long periods? Do you feel like you need to take a rest when you’re trying to keep up with your family (kids and grandkids)…or even keep up with your dog? Have you been told that your stiff, swollen, achy joints are “bone-on-bone” and there’s nothing you can do about it? Are you looking to stay active? Feel normal again? Feel younger and stronger naturally without medications, injections or surgery? If you are looking to feel younger and feel stronger naturally, then going to the Arthritis Workshop may be one of the best decisions you make. “After coming to Madden, I’m sleeping better and no longer have pain keeping me awake. Getting in and out of a car used to give me pain, but got increasingly better with the help of PT. Thank you for helping me improve my health.” - Christine F. Arthritis can cause you to feel pain, stiff, and achy…making it difficult to move…even with everyday activities. Arthritis can stop you from feeling normal. • It can force you to take pain medications, Ibuprofen, or even get cortisone injections (which are known to cause other health problems). • Everyday activities like walking, driving, doing stairs, housework or even sleeping can feel difficult to impossible to perform. (Especially in the morning when you first get out of bed). • You can feel irritated, upset or uncomfortable trying to keep up with your family or friends. • You might feel like you’re neglecting your yard, house or garden… • Arthritis can distract you from focusing on what you’re doing (forgetting why you went to the store…or what you were going to do). • And it can take away from your ability to live a normal life…feeling like you have to depend on other people…or having them wait on you while you “just sit for a minute.” Less movement and less living can lead to depression, stress and a life of sitting. Not good. Here at Madden Physical Therapy, we’ve helped thousands of arthritis sufferers who have suffered needlessly with arthritis…it’s our specialty. Most were experiencing pain, aching or stiffness in their back, neck, hips, knees and shoulders…and were looking for natural treatments…

By request to help arthritis sufferers, I’m hosting an Arthritis Workshop right here at Madden Physical Therapy in the Giant Shopping Center in Shrewsbury on Wednesday, June 24th, 2020 at 7:00pm. If you’re confused about what to do and looking for answers, here’s some of what you’ll learn: ✔ The Single Biggest #1 Mistake arthritis sufferers make which actually stops them from healing… ✔ The 2 Most Common Types of Arthritis… ✔ A Sure-Fire Way to Pick the Right Treatment for the Cause of Your Pain (and save you a ton of time and money). ✔ Why your joints feel stiff in the morning…and what you can do about it. ✔ What successful treatment and permanent relief looks like without the side effects of medications, injections or surgery. How Do I Claim My Seat for the Arthritis Workshop? When you register, we will mail you The Arthritis Worksheet which you will bring with you to the event. Due to current government restrictions, we only have a limited number of seats available for the event… So if you would like to attend, be sure to register now… Call 717-210-9945. How Much Is It to Attend the Arthritis Workshop? The event is FREE. No cost to you… ***PLUS as a Special Bonus, all attendees of the Arthritis Workshop will receive a Special Report: “The 7 Secrets to Permanent Relief for Arthritis.” Matt Conroy, Physical Therapist Looking forward to seeing you there,

Matt Conroy
