ABC Chapter Announces STEP Award Winners

SOUTHERN YORK COUNTY

The Keystone Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) announced the winners of its 2019 Safety Training and Evaluation (STEP) Awards and recognized its 2019 OSHA Partners on May 1. Representatives from several member companies accepted their awards at the ABC Safety Awards Dinner. The anchor of ABC’s Safety Awards program is STEP, which provides companies a structured approach to benchmark and improve their safety efforts. The goal of the program is to provide an organized approach to analyze and further develop a company’s safety and loss prevention. Participating ABC member firms measure their safety processes and policies on 20 key components through a detailed questionnaire with the goal of implementing or enhancing safety programs that reduce jobsite incidence rates. Participating companies score their level of achievement for each component on a weighted point scale and document their incident rates. Companies receive

First Capital Federal Credit Union’s president/CEO Sue DeStephano (right) and community engagement officer Lisa Barshinger (center) presented a check for $700 to Hannah Beard (left) of the York County SPCA on April 3. The money was raised through the First Cap Gives Back program, in which First Capital Federal Credit Union (FCU) selects a charity to support each quarter. To raise money for the SPCA, staff members sold paw prints to members at First Capital FCU’s branches. Employees also paid a set amount to wear jeans on a specific day. The $700 raised is in addition to monetary and pet supply donations collected at First Capital FCU’s annual holiday party, which were dropped off in December 2018.

Nace has always had a passion for art but could not devote the necessary time and energy to it until after her children were grown and she retired. For the past 10 years she has been under the tutelage of Michele Trout, a professional artist working in Shrewsbury. Trout has provided encouragement and constructive criticism to help Nace improve her art and discover her potential as an artist. Nace has created several pieces in watercolor, but her favorite medium is acrylics. She prefers a realistic style and leans more toward nature rather than structures in her work. The reception is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For more information about this event and other library events, readers may visit www.yorklibraries.org/mason -dixon or call the library at 717993-2404.

Works of art by New Freedom resident Linda Nace will be exhibited at the Mason-Dixon Public Library in Stewartstown from Sunday, June 9, to Friday, Aug. 2. A reception will take place on June 9.
