Laure Receives Recognition Susquehannock High School teacher Tom Laure has been awarded the Excellence in Education Award from the York Area Down Syndrome Association. Bruce Duncan, father of Kasey Duncan, nominated Laure. Kasey has been in Laure’s class for two years and is now employed at Goodwill. In his nomination, Bruce noted that Laure arranges vocational opportunities and real-world experiences for his students. When commenting on the award, Laure recognized his staff, including Toni Shearer, Christine Thomas, Diane Ingram, and Jennifer Garvey. He also mentioned the administration’s support.

VFW Post 7012 To Hold Egg Hunt The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7012 will sponsor an Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 13, at 10 a.m. at the New Freedom Community Center, 150 E. Main St., New Freedom. The Easter Bunny will hand out prizes at the event. Children from the community are invited to attend.

The Kids Art Club at McKendree United Methodist Church, 3708 Delta Road, Airville, will meet in the church hall on Saturday, April 13, at 9 a.m. Club leaders will offer a new experience in creativity for children ages 9 to 13. At the April 13 meeting, students will design and decorate eggs. The program is open to the community. The goal is to have the students experience art through the use of different materials and acrylic paints. Each session will include an art/craft project involving art techniques, color mixing, and more. Every student will be keeping an art information and sketch book. Lions Club Plans Easter Events

Guinston Evangelical Presbyterian Church will host an arts and crafts festival from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, at the Chanceford Community Building, 33 Muddy Creek Forks Road, Brogue. Tables are available to rent. The adult gallery will hold original drawings and paintings, stained glass, jewelry, handwoven items, and other art works by local artisans. Framed
prints will be on hand for minimal cost. The event will also feature bargains on decorative items, crafting supplies, fabric, Easter items, and more. Attendees will have the opportunity to win a machine-made queensize quilt. A variety of food items will also be available. The York New Salem Lions Club’s Easter flower sale, planned for April 17 to 20, will take place at the Twin Pine Farm Country Store in York. The York New Salem Lions Club will hold its annual Easter flower sale from Wednesday through Saturday, April 17 to 20, beginning 9 a.m. daily at the Twin Pine Farm Country Store, 1428 Seven Valleys Road, York. A variety of flowers, including mums, tulips, hyacinths, lilies, hydrangeas and planters, will be available.
Proceeds from the flower sale support the children’s egg hunt, for children up to age 10. This year’s event will take place at the New Salem Elementary School, 3745 Salem Road, York, on April 20 beginning at 10 a.m. sharp. Readers with questions may call 717-792-1207.
