Vietnam War Veterans Day Planned National Vietnam War Veterans Day will be recognized on Friday, March 29, across York County through programs serving as a retroactive welcoming home for veterans who served in the Vietnam War. National Vietnam War Veterans Day is established in federal statutes due to local veteran Harold E. Redding’s work.

The Valley Street Bridge in Glen Rock will be dedicated on March 29 and renamed the WO1 Martin E. Bixler Memorial Bridge. The ceremony will start at noon, with a reception to follow at the American Legion Post 403, 4035 Manchester St., Glen Rock. Bixler, of Glen Rock, was an army helicopter pilot killed in action in the Vietnam

War. He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action, the third-highest valor distinction in the U.S. Armed Forces. Arrangements for this dedication are being coordinated by state Rep. Kate Klunk and her staff. For more details, readers may call Klunk’s district office at 717-630-8942. A second ceremony will take

Vietnam War medallions will be presented to all veterans attending who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces any time from Nov. 1, 1955, to May 15, 1975, regardless of location. Arrangements for this dedication are being coordinated by Bob Glatfelter, president of Vietnam Veterans Chapter 1032. How does the organization work to achieve its goals? The York County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is a charitable organization dedicated to providing long-term human and animal services to residents of York County through programs that find permanent, loving homes for displaced and stray animals, help control animal population growth, investigate and prosecute cruelty offenders, and educate the general public about animal wellness and safety. Approximately how many staff mem bers and volunteers are involved? We have approximately 40 staff members, and we try to engage each one in some way for Give Local York.

Did York County SPCA participate in the inaugural Give Local York last year? We did participate, and it was so much fun! It was the first time our entire staff was able to come together as a cohesive unit. The energy and enthusiasm was contagious, and we are excited to bring that all back this year! What are the organization’s goals for 2019? Our goal is to always serve York County’s pet parents, potential pet parents, and homeless animals. Through this year’s fundraising efforts, we are looking forward to continuing our mission and expanding our services.

plish our mission! Did Toys for Tots York participate in the inaugural Give Local York last year? Yes. We were delighted with the cooperation and participation throughout the community! What are the organization’s goals for 2019? Our goal every year is to reach more families in York County than ever before! Thanks to our many partners and generous donors, we were able to provide 24,500 toys for 15,000 children (up to age 12) in 2018! Where will funds raised through Give Local York be directed? We are thankful to everyone who donates toys to our campaign at Christmastime, but sometimes we fall short of gifts for specific age groups and genders. Cash donations will help us purchase the gifts we need to match the requests from our partners.
