South Eastern Dollars for Scholars will award scholarships to students on Tuesday, May 21, at 7 p.m. in the Kennard-Dale High School auditorium. The profits from the upcoming bingo event will help to fund the chapter scholarships.

When the doors open at 5:30 p.m., food will be available, including soups, sandwiches, pies, cakes, and more. Fried chicken dinners will be available until they are sold out. Bingo will begin at 7 p.m.

The event will include 20 regular games of bingo, and each winner will receive both a designer purse and a filled basket. Attendees will be eligible to win door prizes that have been donated by community members.

Giveaway drawing items will include a fly fishing outfit, a Mystery Box, two afghans in blue and gold colors made by Patti Gibney, a purse, a gift certificate to a flooring store, two three-layer decorated cakes, an espresso and cappuccino maker, and a travel bag filled with “pink” items donated by the family of Kerry Colvin in memory of Kerry.

Father-Daughter Event Planned Chanceford Presbyterian Church, 1784 Woodbine Road, Airville, will host its FatherDaughter Dinner Dance on Saturday, March 30, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. in its social hall. The evening will consist of music, dancing, a picture and dinner, and all daughters will leave with

a special gift as well.

Separate prices have been set for adults and for children ages 6 to 12, with children under age 6 admitted free.

Fathers and daughters of all ages are invited, and relatives such as grandfathers and uncles are welcome to help

The Stewartstown Lions Club recently recognized Madison Wolfe as the Student of the Month for December, representing the science department at KennardDale High School, and William Hotz as the Student of the Month for January, representing the social studies department at Kennard-Dale High School.

Madison is the daughter of Greg and Kristen Wolfe of Fawn Grove. At school, she is the treasurer for Aevidum and secretary of National Honor Society. She is also involved with Mini-THON,

Brave Girls, and Rams Team, and she was the NRM Student of the Year in 2016. She earned an academic letter for Honor Society.

She plans to attend either Bloomsburg University or Millersville University to study childhood education.

William is the son of Michael and Beth Hotz Stewartstown.

He has been included on the distinguished honor roll, and he

is a member of FBLA. He has lettered in music, academics, and cross-country. He played viola in the orchestra festival for three years.

In the community, William is a member of York Youth Symphony Orchestra and the pit ensemble for Stewartstown Summer Theatre as well as the pianist at Bryansville United Methodist Church. He participated in York Running Club’s winter series.

He plans to attend college to pursue an audio engineering degree.

Preservation Society To Discuss Bakery The Glen Rock Historic Preservation Society will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. at the town museum, which is located at 1 Manchester St., Glen Rock.

School Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony

Dallastown Area School District’s mission for the project is to update and enhance the school, thereby creating an anchor school on that side of the district comparative in student enrollment, program offerings, square footage and amenities to the York Township and Ore Valley elementary schools. The additions and renovations will increase the size of the school from 56,665 square feet to nearly 91,000 square feet, allowing for additional classrooms, enhanced library-media center spaces, a new cafeteria and gymnasium and small group instruction rooms. This ex pansion will house up to 550 students compared to the current enrollment

of nearly 470 students.

Opened in 1953, the elementary school received an addition in 1972 and some mechanical component upgrades in 2005. A facility study committee consisting of teachers, parents, community members, school administration and board members assessed the needs of the school during a 13-month period beginning in September 2015, and in November 2016, the committee produced a final report providing recommendations for the board’s consideration. The board then selected an architecture firm, which provided schematics. An Act 34 hearing was held on June 11, 2018.

GLY did an awesome job of creating a vibrant environment in the spirit of giving, and we’re excited for the opportunity to be involved again this year.

What are the organization’s goals for 2019?

The Pennsylvania Department of Education recently implemented Career Education and Work (CEW) Standards as part of the State Board of Education’s regulations of required education for all students in Pennsylvania. JA has been offering programs for kindergarten through 12th-graders that meet these requirements to schools in southcentral Pennsylvania at no cost, but the demand for our programs has now surpassed the financial support from the community. Our goal for 2019 is to increase our funding to match the demand for our programs.

Where will the funds raised through Give Local York be directed?

Funds raised through GLY will be used to address the increased requests for programs in our community as a result of the new CEW Standards. On average, our programs cost $20 per student.

The center’s weights class, which includes using weights and working on agility, is held at 9 a.m. on Fridays, and interested participants are encouraged to arrive early, as seating is limited.

The Cultural Alliance of York County will host YorVoice, the fifth annual music showcase, on Saturday, March 30, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts, 50 N. George St., York.

YorVoice is a friendly competition that aims to bring the community together to enjoy listening to musicians. It strives to inspire York pride, celebrate the arts, highlight local talent, and raise awareness for the Cultural Alliance’s Annual Campaign.

In the 2018 competition, local acoustic duo the Beaver Street Brethren was crowned the live band champion and singer Scarlet Rose was crowned the vocal champion. Both will return in a combined opening performance to introduce the competitors.

A Susquehanna Valley Community Mental Health Services client, who is a survivor of human trafficking, participated in the Red Sand Project at Susquehanna Valley Community Mental Health Services’ office in Hanover. The project is an annual awareness campaign to show how survivors of human trafficking “fall through the cracks.”

What are the organization’s goals for 2019?

We are seeking to hire a full-time therapist to serve only trafficking survivors and are planning to send that therapist to extra training in evidence-based treatments for PTSD. This therapist will provide services at both shelters and at our Approximately how many staff offices. What is the mission of Susquehanna Valley Community Mental Health Services? How does the organization work to achieve its goals?

Our mission is to provide comprehensive complex trauma and addictions counseling, also specializing in serving survivors of sexual exploitation and human trafficking. We provide outpatient mental health therapy at our offices in York and Hanover, and we also provide therapy on-site at two shelters for survivors of human trafficking. Our CEO is the chair of the Behavioral Health Workgroup for the York County Human Trafficking Task Force, and our agency is the first point of contact to assist in finding survivors appropriate mental health treatment in York County.
