Every day, center members can use available exercise equipment and walk in the gym. Additionally, isometric exercises are offered at 9:30 a.m., tai chi is offered at 10:15 a.m. On Mondays, stretch yoga is held at 9:15 a.m. On Tuesdays, Balance & Core is held at 9 a.m. On Wednesday, Weights & Balance is held at 9 a.m. and line dancing is offered at 10 a.m. On Thursday, Zumba Gold takes place at 8:30 a.m. and Beginners’ Core & Balance is at 8:30 a.m. On Fridays, Balance & Core is offered at 9 a.m.

The center offers card playing and games every day. Additional offerings include acrylic art class on Mondays at 9:30 a.m. On Tuesdays, watercolor class is held at 9:15 a.m. and the blanket-knotting project is held in the morning. The schedule on Wednesdays includes ceramics at 9:15 a.m. and the blanket-knotting project in the morning. On Thursdays, Walking Through the Bible begins at 8:45 a.m. and Bunco is played at 9:15 a.m. The center aims to have 12 players for Bunco each week. On Fridays, the Friends Together Craft Class is at 9 a.m. and adult coloring is at 10:15 a.m.

The center also offers a class on card making every other Monday after lunch. A quilters’ group meets every other Wednesday at 9 a.m. to work on lap robes for veterans and other projects. Center members are also knitting and crocheting

hats for Coats of Friendship, a group that collects coats for homeless individuals in the area. Yarn will be supplied.

Once a month, the center offers a movie and popcorn. A nurse visits the center to conduct blood pressure checks on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. A podiatrist visits the center every nine weeks. The next scheduled date is Thursday, Feb. 13, and interested seniors should preregister with the center.

The senior center is selling cookbooks as a fundraiser.

The center seeks individuals who are interested in delivering meals to seniors.

Interested volunteers may call 717-2356060 for more information. Participants will volunteer one morning every four weeks. The Meals on Wheels program delivers more than 50 meals to seniors on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program is again offering free tax preparation service for taxpayers of all ages, especially adults age 50 and older, during the 2019 tax season. The closest location to the South Central York County Senior Center that is offering this service is Shrewsbury Grace United Methodist Church. There is no fee, and AARP membership is not required. Taxpayers should bring their photo ID and proof of the Social Security or ITIN numbers for anyone on the tax return, including children or other claimed dependents. Bringing last year’s tax

Church Plans “Soup For Souls” Event Red Lion Zion United Methodist Church, 1155 Felton Road, Red Lion, will host its annual “Soup for Souls” community soup supper on Saturday, Feb. 1. The event will run from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

No tickets are required. Attendees will be served on a first-come, first-served basis. The menu will include an assortment of homemade soups, salad, desserts, and beverages.

Sparrow Place Sets Golf Event Sparrow Place is a local nonprofit with the mission to open a home in York County as a long-term therapeutic residence where women survivors of trafficking can heal and reclaim their lives.

Six local students competed at a FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Robotics qualifying event on Dec. 14, 2019, at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, Md. The children are members of the Southern York County Robotics Club, a community group founded in 2016. Their team was one of 17 that competed at the event.

The SYC Cosmic Stars, consisting of Southern Elementary School students Tessa Foley, Elise Martin, Brady Parks, Marco Petricevic, Logan Trimble, and Mackenzie Turk, won both the first-place award for robot performance and the Champion’s Award for the event. The Robot Performance Award is earned by the team with the highest score in the robot game challenge, while the Champion’s Award recognizes the team that best demonstrates excellence in each of the competition’s three judged areas of the research project, robot design and programming, and core values.

The SYC Cosmic Stars will now advance to the Maryland State Championship, which will be held at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in Catonsville, Md., on Sunday, Feb. 23.

There the team will compete for an opportunity to advance to the FLL Robotics World Championship, which will be held in Detroit in April.
