poverty through long-term sustainable approaches to significantly reduce hunger. Centre and Stewartstown Presbyterian churches, Cross Roads United Methodist Church, and St. John Sadler’s Lutheran Church sponsored teams for the walk. One-fourth of the collected funds - approximately $1,187 - will support the food pantry of Mason-Dixon Community Services (MDCS) in Delta. In addition, participants packed 200 snack kits for MDCS, which has the goal to prevent homelessness. Each dollar families save by securing food or energy assistance through MDCS frees up money to pay utilities and rent or mortgage payments so that families can stay in their homes or apartments. MDCS believes that helping families avoid homelessness contributes to building stability in the community and improving educational and other opportunities for children. The Cross Roads Ministerium, which includes Cross Roads United Methodist and Hopewell and Round Hill Presbyterian churches, sponsored the walk, and the Eureka Fire Police of Stewartstown helped to provide safe walking conditions.
