The Dallastown Area High School Performing Arts Club will present its fall play, “Game of Tiaras” by Don Zolidis, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, and Friday, Nov. 15; at 2 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16; and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17, in the school auditorium, located at 700 New School Lane, Dallastown.

When the aging king of a Magical Kingdom (England) decides to split his empire between his three daughters, tragedy ensues. “Game of Tiaras” combines the plot twists of “Game of Thrones” and the

despair of classic Shakespearean tragedy in a farcical adaptation of “King Lear.”

Sixth-Grader Wins Poster Contest Windsor Lions Club recently held a peace poster contest for sixthgraders at Larry J. Macaluso Elementary School in the Red Lion School District. This year’s theme is “Journey of Peace.” Winner Abigail Dutton’s poster, a story map showing a person from infancy through old age continuously being kind and loving, will move on to the next level, Lions International District 14C. If it wins there, it could advance to the international level at the United Nations in New York; the prize at that level is $5,000.

Abigail’s art teacher is Allison Resline.

Lions Club International sponsors the contest each year.

Community Veterans Day Event Set Red Lion VFW Post 1446 will sponsor a community Veterans Day observance on Monday, Nov. 11, starting at 6:30 p.m. The program will be open to the public. Post 1446 is located at 815 S. Main St., Red Lion.

The program will include the presenation of the colors by the Dallastown

JROTC color guard. Scout troops from the community will be in attendance, and Gold Star families will be recognized.

The scheduled speaker for the program is retired 1st Sgt. Christine Smith, who served in the Army for 32 years.

Information relative to benefits for veterans and their families will be shared.

Dallastown American Legion Post 605 held a fundraiser on Sept. 21 with proceeds going to support Mr. Sandy’s Homeless Veterans Center, 412 W. Market St., York.

A donation for $5,000 was presented by John Noll (far left), chairman of the fundraiser, and Paul Bishop (far right), commander of Post 605, to Collette Walker (second from left) and Jana Murry, who accepted the donation on behalf of Mr. Sandy’s. Additionally, $1,700 was donated by the Vietnam veterans’ picnic fund.

Christmas Crafters To Offer Art Class Craft, Vendor Show Planned The community is welcomed to attend a Christmas craft and vendor show at Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, 10384 Winterstown Road, Red Lion, on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will benefit the church’s building fund.

More than 20 crafters and vendors will be in attendance, including Scentsy, Origami Owl, and Color Street, plus stands with homemade wooden and metal crafts, jewelry, acrylic canvases, homemade cat and dog treats, and more. Breakfast and lunch concessions will also be sold.

Foraging Class Planned Foraging - Wild Roots will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Horn Farm Center, 4945 Horn Road, York, on Saturday, Nov. 9.

The program will demonstrate the process for taking items from root to coffee, and participants will sample a taste.

AARP Refresher Class Scheduled Stewartstown Senior Center, 26 S. Fire Departments To Merge Leo Independent Fire Engine Company No. 1 of Red Lion, Laurel Fire Company No. 1 of Windsor, and Union Volunteer Fire Company of Felton have made a statement in regard to the merger between the three departments.

The merger board, made up of nine members from the three merging departments, has shared the following information.

The aforementioned departments are creating one fire department. The top goals for merging are to provide high-qual-

ity emergency services, spend less time fundraising, prevent burnout of the volunteers, and increase recruitment of members.

The merger talks have been ongoing for more than 18 months. With the successful merger of these departments, there are no plans to change or close any of the fire stations.

The service that is provided today should not change if the merger is successful.

The new department will have the name of Alliance Fire and

Rescue Services Inc. The mission of the new department, working as one with the highest level of training and professionalism, is “to preserve life, property, and the environment by providing protection and safety to the community.”

The final vote for the merger of the departments is planned at each of the departments’ business meetings in November. A statement will follow with more information at some time after the votes on Monday, Nov. 11.

This past summer, HB McClure Company donated money to local schools to support a variety of projects using DonorsChoose.org. This organization lets donors find classroom projects they would like to support and allows them to give money to those specific projects.

DonorsChoose.org was started by a history teacher to allow the community to help support classrooms and specific

projects for students. Any public school in the United States can fund projects through the site and connect with the local community.

Some of the projects HB McClure supported were projects that helped children to increase their confidence in math, kept children cool during the summer heat, increased students’ understanding of how the body functions, helped students

improved their coding knowledge, and helped children who may not have access to more than one meal a day.

YCSWA Sponsors Puppet Shows To promote recycling and celebrate America Recycles Day on Friday, Nov. 15, the York County Solid Waste Authority (YCSWA) is sponsoring puppet show assembly programs in nine York County schools. The recycling-themed program, titled “Magic Pots and Recycled Bottles,” was created by puppeteer Kathleen Jacobs.

Students will see ordinary household items “recycled” into

2020 York Revolution Schedule Announced The York Revolution has announced its 2020 schedule.

The team’s 14th season will mark the return of the Road Warriors, the Atlantic Leaguesupported permanent “away” team that will take the place of the departing New Britain Bees.

The 2020 season will feature 72 home games, including 18 games against the Road Warriors, who will face the Revolution in the home opener on Friday, May 8.

The Revs will start the season on Thursday, April 30, with a series against the Freedom Division Champion Sugar Land Skeeters, followed by a visit to the High Point Rockers.

Revolution officials have begun developing a promotional schedule that will feature giveaways, celebrity or character appearances, and entertainment acts. Revolution memberships are already on sale, and individual

tickets will go on sale in late winter 2020.

The team has also announced a preseason special offer on memberships in the 1741 Club presented by UPMC, which made its debut in the 2019 season and drew thousands of people to the renovated club space on the skybox level of PeoplesBank Park. Individuals and companies who buy or renew 1741 Club memberships by Tuesday, Dec. 31, will lock in 2019 rates for the 2020 season.

The coming season will mark the latest chapter in the “War of the Roses,” the Revolution’s ongoing rivalry with the Lancaster Barnstormers.

The Revs will welcome the Stormers to the White Rose City six times in 2020 and travel to the Red Rose City nine times. The team with the best head-to-head record will

claim the Community Cup, which currently resides in PeoplesBank Park.

The Revolution will face the defending Atlantic League Champion Long Island Ducks in 16 games, the Sugar Land Skeeters in 20 games, the Somerset Patriots in 19 games, the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in 19 games, and the High Point Rockers in 19 games.

The 2020 Atlantic League Professional Baseball schedule is divided into two 63-game halves, with the first half ending on Thursday, July 9, and the regular season ending on Sunday, Sept. 20. The first-half and second-half champions in each division will qualify for the 2020 Atlantic League playoffs. If one or both teams win each half of their respective divisions, the team(s) with the next best overall record will qualify for the postseason.

GNA Announces Partnership Groff North America (GNA), an industrial hemp agribusiness located in Red Lion, has announced a partnership with US Cotton, based in Gastonia, N.C., on the launch of a hempbased cosmetic brand, BLUMME. The announcement comes nearly one year since the United States Congress passed the Hemp Farming Act of 2018, which declassified industrial hemp from a Schedule 1 drug to an agricultural commodity, legal in all 50 states.

GNA was founded by Steve Groff, a Lancaster County-born third-generation dairy farmer

turned orthopedic surgeon. The business is focused on pioneering the resurgence of the hemp industry in the United States and beyond. GNA launched operations in December 2018 and has a focus on whole plant utilization. GNA’s processing center and research park headquartered in Red Lion accepted delivery of North America’s first commercially installed HempTrain Advanced Processing Facility in October. The complex will serve as one of the first of its kind in the United States, providing research, development, and production of hemp-based derivatives.

GNA’s vertically integrated business model allows it to understand the product life cycle from raw material generation to consumer product.

GNA recently announced the acquisition of Canadian Greenfield Technologies, the developer of the HempTrain. GNA anticipates the deal to be finalized in the fourth quarter of 2019. GNA has also assembled a team of multi-disciplinary physicians who oversee its brick-and-mortar retail stores and consumer brand, Farmacy Partners (FP).

Staff members watched a 10-minute video on the background of Harley-Davidson and then toured the facility to see all that goes into making Harley-Davidson motorcycles. owner to rent a dumpster. Walters then planned to invite other faith-based organizations to join in a day of filling the dumpster with all the broken-down debris.

The final cleanup efforts took place in September, and the project is now complete. Walters, who was instrumental in organizing the cleanup, received a letter of commendation from director Mike Fetrow of the York County Office of Emergency Management for his tireless effort and the service he provided to the citizens of the township with this and other projects.

Church members also helped to clean up debris at the home of Philip Sherfey in Felton Borough after a thunderstorm passed through the area on the evening of July 30. Fire crews were dispatched to the home because of the damage, which included uprooted and split trees and fallen utility poles. Sherfey contacted the Shrewsbury Ward of his church to request assistance in clearing the debris that remained in the yard after his utility company and a professional group had cleared the driveway. Sherfey’s request brought 40 volunteers from the church to help him clean up his property.

The Shrewsbury Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently helped local residents clean up piles of debris left by two thunderstorms in southern York County. The Shrewsbury Ward meets at 2100 Hollywood Drive, York Township.

One project entailed cleaning up a large pile of debris that was left behind by flooding on Clearview Drive in Shrewsbury Township. Two or more sheds and other items were washed down Trout Run toward the South Branch of the Codorus Creek on Aug. 31, 2018, when flooding rains struck parts of York County. Some of the debris came to rest against the bridge at Bohr Court, destroying the road on both sides of the bridge. Additionally, a large jumble was deposited in a wooded lot west of its starting point.

The homeowners of the lot where the items started cooperated with township officials and York County Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), and the Shrewsbury Ward Latter-day Saints agreed to clean up the debris pile. Volunteers began deconstructing the pile in spring.

Stanton Walters, the emergency management coordinator for Shrewsbury Township, reported to the board of supervisors monthly on the VOAD’s progress on the cleanup. To complete the project, the York County VOAD allowed the home

The Fox Trotter team from Fox Rehabilitation participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Oct. 26. The team was composed of physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and their families. Several regional partners collaborated with the Chesapeake Conservancy to develop the content for the website, including Susquehanna National Heritage Area, Susquehanna Greenway Partnership, and the Susquehanna River Trail Association.

Nature Play Drop-In Programs Planned The York County Department of Parks and Recreation will host Nature Play Drop-In Programs for children on Fridays, Nov. 8, 15, and 22, and Saturdays, Nov. 9, 16, and 23, at the Nature Center at Nixon County Park, 5922 Nixon Drive, York. The program will take place during the regular Nature Center hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Families are welcome to drop in at any time during the program and stay for as long as they would like. Various play stations will be set up inside the Nature Center. Attendees may dress up, use puppets, feel natural objects, explore with short scavenger hunts, and be creative.

County Enters Into Contract The York County Commissioners voted 2-1 on Sept. 18 to enter into a six-month consulting services contract with IXP Corporation to assist the county and 911 staff to modify the processes, training, and organization of the county’s 911 center. York County will pay IXP a fixed cost of $750,000, which includes all expenses, for a six-month period.

These costs will cover more than 2,500 hours of work over the period, with an option to further the consulting relationship based on performance metrics and goals as outlined in IXP’s proposal and the evaluation that concluded in June. The county will form a committee to meet weekly with IXP. This committee will consist of the executive director of IT, the deputy county administrator, and a commissioner.

The committee will have the oversight, through the authority of the commissioners, to oversee daily operations of the 911 center and approve necessary modifications. The commissioners will approve broader measures and matters involving personnel. The county’s full leadership team, which includes the committee as well as facilities management, public relations, controller, and solicitor, will meet monthly with IXP to evaluate performance and to review goals that have been achieved.

With the upcoming changes in training and QA/AI administration requirements being implemented by PEMA effective Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020, the county plans to undertake the necessary modifications now to processes, so that the county is

better equipped to manage the forthcoming changes.

IXP, based out of Princeton, N.J., was initially hired by the county in January to conduct an audit of the county’s 911 center that was completed in June. A report detailing the county’s 911 deficiencies provided the county with an overview of changes required to improve the center’s functionality. The 18-page report provided a blueprint for the county. A comprehensive review, with IXP investing significant hours per week at the county’s 911 center, will offer the county expert industry assistance to improve its training, management structure, and system processes.

Did You Know?

Several York County school districts are in the process of evaluating their districtwide, non-emergency communication, and they want to hear from residents. A survey has been created to capture the opinions and suggestions of York County residents.

The survey can be completed electronically by visiting http://bit.ly/school-comm -survey.

Regardless of the district in which readers reside, they are encouraged to consider taking the five-minute survey. The answers will help local school districts assess their current communications practices and potentially implement changes to better serve district residents.

Individuals without internet access may complete the survey using one of two computers in the Ronald Provard Education Center, 1800 Hollywood Drive, York.
