CHICKEN BARBECUE

Locust Grove United Church of Christ,

Waiting for someday to plan your funeral or cremation service may be a big mistake. Last time we checked, there is no someday on the calendar.

1035 Locust Grove Road, York, will host a chicken barbecue and bake sale on Saturday, Sept. 1. The sale will run from 11 a.m. until sold out, rain or shine. Dinners will be available on a firstcome, first-served basis. The cost of a dinner will include a halfchicken, a baked potato, applesauce, a roll, a cupcake, and a beverage. Dinners may be eaten on-site or carried out. To reserve dinners, call 717-755-1318. Messages should include the caller’s name, phone number, and number of dinners desired. COMMUNITY EVENT

will take place on Sunday, Sept. 2, in the barn at the ranch located at 3231 Warner Road, Brogue. All are welcome. The children’s program will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by the worship service at 6 p.m. led by Brad Rineholt, an ordained Cowboys for Christ chaplain. The service will include music and Scripture. A potluck dinner, s’mores, and a campfire will follow the service. Attendees are invited to bring a dish to share if they are able. On Sept. 2 and Sunday, Sept. 16, Silver Spurs will collect items for the Children’s Home of York. Needed items include school and art supplies, sports balls, toiletries, AA and AAA batteries, craft kits and athletic socks. Items are needed for male and female youths up to age 18. A complete wish list is available at www.childrens homeofyork.org.

2523 Pine Grove Road, York, will host an Autumn Harvest Tea on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 11 a.m. The tea will include a five-course luncheon, along with friendship tea, a harvest blend of spices with cranberry and citrus. Unsweetened tea will be available upon request. The event will also include musical entertainment, as well as door prizes. Each guest is asked to bring his or her own teacup.
