Sunday Funday will be held at Wyndridge Farm, 885 S. Pleasant Ave., Dallastown, on Sunday, Aug. 23, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Attendees will be able to enjoy craft beverages and food, live music, lawn games,

Eco-conscious consumers may go to great lengths to spend their money in an environmentally friendly way. One of the easiest ways to be an eco-friendly consumer is to support local businesses. While many consumers may know that buying local helps to grow the economy by supporting local business owners and creating jobs, they may not realize the positive impact that buying local can have on the environment as well. -Shopping locally reduces the environmental impact of purchases. National chains often have to ship their products from around the world, resulting in greater fuel consumption and air pollution. Local businesses often buy their supplies from other local businesses; this cuts down on shipping, which again means less fuel consumption and air pollution. -Local businesses often operate from central locations, such as the center of town. Because they typically need less space for their stores, they are able to set up shop in convenient downtown areas. This makes them more accessible to community residents, who may walk or take a short bike ride instead of driving their car or riding a bus in order to shop. This decreases the customers’ fuel consumption and carbon footprint. -Shopping locally helps to reduce others’ carbon footprints, as well. These dollars support local businesses, which often employ members of the local community, translating to shorter commutes, less highway congestion, and less fuel consumption for the employees. -Buying locally grown foods can protect local wildlife. When local farms receive support, they can afford to stay in operation, meaning that local farmers are less likely to sell their land to developers. This can help protect the habitats of local wildlife.

The next distribution of free graband-go style community lunches will take place on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 220 N. Charles St., Red Lion. The meals are provided through a partnership of Community REACH Inc., Grace Lutheran Church, and St. John’s United Church of Christ. Lunches for adults and for children 18 years and younger will be available. Meals for those with special dietary needs will also be offered. Participants are asked to enter the church parking lot from West High Street. Volunteers will provide the lunches to guests while they remain in their vehicles. Registration is not required. The concern for the safety of guests and workers during the current COVID-19 pandemic outweighs the desire to provide a time of food, music, and fellowship. The church is hopeful that conditions will improve and that the picnic will be held in 2021.

Additional locations in the York County Libraries (YCL) system have opened for limited browsing only. Library members may now enter most YCL buildings to browse and select books and audiobooks in adult collection areas. These services are in addition to the curbside and lobby service offered at libraries countywide. Kreutz Creek Library and Salem Square Library will not open for limited browsing because of their small size. Kreutz Creek has expanded its operating hours and will continue offering lobby pickup service. Salem Square will remain closed, and members needing service in downtown York are encouraged to use Martin Library. Children’s areas remain closed; however, themed book bundles for children are available upon request and youth materials are integrated into browsing areas at some locations. Christopher and Elizabeth Thomas of Red Lion have announced the engagement of their daughter, Amelia Rose Thomas of Hellam, to Dakota Gregory Seiple of Hellam. The bride-elect graduated from Red Lion Area Senior High School in 2012 and York College in 2016. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy concurrently with a Ph.D. in social psycology. She is employed by Dr. Nathan Shpritz, DDS in York. Mr. Seiple is the son of Amy Seiple of Union City, W.Va., and Chad Seiple of Red Lion. He graduated from Red Lion Area Senior High the Navy Reserve and holds the rank of School in 2013.
