School Launches Little Free Library

A Little Free Library is now open at Leaders Heights Elementary School, 49 Indian Rock Dam Road, York. Charles Patterson, principal, dedicated the library on May 4 during the annual May Day festivities. Parents of third-graders presented the idea to the PTO, and support was given by staff and families throughout the school. The library, located in the school’s front courtyard, is open 24/7. Community members are invited to visit the library, give a book, and take a book in exchange. Visitors are asked to sign the guest book.

Students and faculty members from Leaders Heights Elementary School celebrated the opening of the school’s Little Free Library, which may be used by community members. H.O.P.E. Awards Scholarships H.O.P.E. (Help for Oncology Problems and Emotional Support) has announced its 2019 scholarship winners. The honorees are Cora Beyer, Alexander Guy, Megan Hale and Daelyn Stabler. The honorees had to complete an application and an interview. H.O.P.E. has been awarding scholarships to high school seniors for more than 20 years. At Red Lion Area Senior High School, Cora was listed on the distinguished honor roll all four years and was a member of the National Honor Society during her junior and senior years. She has also been the Community Activist of the Month

Festival Will Celebrate Acts Of Kindness Celebrating York’s Unity Through 10,000 Acts of Kindness, a multicultural, multifaith, nonpartisan, and all-inclusive unity festival, will be held on Sunday, June 30, from 2 to 6 p.m. in Memorial Park, 941 Vander Ave., York. The festival was originally scheduled to be held in Penn Park. The purpose of the event is to celebrate the growth York has made over the past 50 years and to celebrate the yearlong project to recognize acts of kindness in the local area. The festival is open to everyone in York who has done an act of kindness over the past year. One highlight of the festival will be 1.5 miles of tables that will be set up in an attempt to earn the Guinness Book of Records’ title for the longest table in the world. The mills of Southern York County in Pennsylvania and Northern Harford County in Maryland will celebrate the heritage of milling on Saturday and Sunday, June 22 and 23, with the eighth free open house. The event is part of a broader celebration sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of
