Church Sets Christmas Shopping Opportunity

Fishing Creek Salem United Methodist Church, 402 Valley Road, Etters, will hold the fifth annual Salem Community Christmas Closet on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The community is invited to enjoy breakfast and to shop for gifts, which will all be offered at no cost. Doors will open for registration at 8:45 a.m. The event will offer children’s clothing, books for children and teenagers, toys, household items, linens, and gift items. A new room called Everything New will be open. In addition, one room will be designated for children age 3 and up who would like to shop for items to give to family members and make crafts while their parents shop. Families will register at the door and then may shop throughout the church. Some limitedquantity areas will use a ticket system. No vendors will be permitted. The event is intended as an opportunity for the church to serve the community. It is not intended for vendors to obtain items to sell. The mission of the church is to connect, grow, and serve. Last year’s event provided more than 338 families an opportunity to shop for items as gifts or to fulfill needs. A performance of “The Hip Nut,” a modern-day adaptation of “The Nutcracker,” will take place at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts in York on Saturday, Dec. 15.

Greater York Dance will present “The Hip Nut” on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 7:30 p.m. at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts, 50 N. George St., York. A cast of more than 75 people will perform in the show.
“The Hip Nut,” a multicultural adaptation of “The Nutcracker,” takes place in two acts and tells the story of a Christmas Eve in modern-day scenes. Clara, the featured girl, is later approached by a group of gangsters and the Nutcracker See The Hip Nut pg 4
Mount Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2164 Mount Zion Road, York, has announced the return of the Hershey Handbell Choir to the church’s recital schedule. The ensemble will perform on Friday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. The Hershey Handbell Choir is an auditioned group that includes 17 members from throughout southcentral Pennsylvania. Founded in 2004, the group is dedicated to sharing the art of handbell ringing through education and performances. It has been recognized for its ability to play advanced literature and, in so doing, presenting a variety of music written for handbells, handchimes and other instruments. Directed by Dr. Shawn Gingrich, the ensemble performs using seven octaves of handbells. The program is free, and the public is invited to attend. A freewill offering will be received to benefit the church’s year-round
The Hershey Handbell Choir will present a recital at Mount Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in York on Friday, Dec. 7. series of community musical recitals.
