Capital City Polka Dancers Association will hold its Christmas dinner and dance on Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Monaghan Township Fire Hall, 245 W. Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet (CPYB) will present the annual holiday tradition of the region’s only production of George Balanchine’s “The Nutcracker” on local stages. Performances will take place at Whitaker Center, 222 Market St., Harrisburg, on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 15 and 16, as well as at Hershey Theatre, 15 E. Caracas Ave., Hershey, on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 22 and 23. Saturday performances will be at 1 and 5 p.m., with Sunday performances at 2 p.m. The dancers of CPYB will bring Balanchine’s winter classic to life with larger-than-life sets and costumes set to the music of Tchaikovsky. Two casts totaling 175 students will perform. CPYB will present Story Telling Through Movement, a free,

interactive pre-performance reading where attendees can learn “The Nutcracker” story, meet the characters, and dance. The event will take place at Whitaker Center on Dec. 15 at 12:15 p.m. and Dec. 16 at 1:15 p.m. Maestro Stuart Malina will lead the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra’s live performances of the score at all three Hershey Theatre performances. CPYB is the only central Pennsylvania organization licensed to perform the Balanchine version of “The Nutcracker.” CPYB is known to be the only school to receive license from The George Balanchine Trust to perform the work since 1991. Club Meeting Features K-9 Unit “All Shook Up” Auditions Slated The Lenker Manor Paxtang Women’s Club’s November program featured the Swatara Township Police Department K-9 unit. Officer Scott Gibson and Kix were joined by Cpl. Tim Bloss and J.T. The officers explained the work, training, and value of the dogs for narcotics searches, article searches, and building searches as well as the extensive training required for developing tracking skills. The K-9 unit has been activated for more than 100 incidents since the program was reintroduced in late spring. Donations to support the K-9 unit are appreciated. Harrisburg Christian Performing Arts Center, 1000 S. Eisenhower Blvd., Middletown, will hold open auditions for performers in fifth grade through adults for the Broadway hit “All Shook Up.” Auditions will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29; at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1; and at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 3. The performance will feature the music of Elvis Presley.

Performers should plan on attending one of the three audition dates, when they will act, sing, and dance to scenes from the show. There is no need to prepare anything for the audition. Gamut Theatre Group will continue its 26th season with “Every Christmas Story Ever Told (and Then Some!)” The show will open on Friday, Dec. 7, at Gamut Theatre, 15 N. Fourth St., Harrisburg. Artistic director Clark Nicholson, executive director Melissa Nicholson and associate artistic director Thomas Weaver will present a comic adventure.

The box office will open at 6:30 p.m., and the performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. Following the opening night performance, a reception will provide an opportunity for guests to meet the director, cast and crew.
