Lower Swatara Township Historic Preservation Society will host its first open house on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 6 p.m. at the Lower Swatara Township Firehouse, 1350 Fulling Mill Road, Middletown. Middletown Area School District (MASD) has announced it is partnering with Penn State Harrisburg in the implementation of a new student teaching model known as the Teacher Residency Collaborative Program. In this new model, four Penn State University (PSU) education students will spend the entire school year working in an MASD classroom with a mentor teacher. The resident teachers will be provided opportunities to teach and engage with students and parents much sooner than in the traditional student teaching model used in the past. They will not simply observe and shadow a classroom teacher, but they will also be a classroom teacher through collaborative teaching models such as co-teaching and parallel teaching. will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lower Dauphin High School, 201 S. Hanover St., Hummelstown. The event will benefit the high school baseball team. More than 150 vendors will be in the gym, cafeteria and auditorium. Crafts will include ceramics, folk art, paintings, dried flowers, basketry, stenciling, wood items, seasonal crafts and more. Attendees will also have opportunities to purchase tickets for giveaway drawings for more than 100 items donated by the crafters. Admission is free, and a concession stand will also be available.
