A Veterans Breakfast for veterans and U.S. military personnel residing in the 106th Legislative District will take place on Thursday, Nov. 8. Hosted by Rep. Tom Mehaffie, the event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lower Swatara Volunteer Fire Department, 1350 Fulling Mill Road, Middletown. The event will feature a hot breakfast, as well as remarks by Mehaffie and other speakers. Each veteran in attendance will receive a commemorative pin. Seating is limited, and registration is required. To register, contact Mehaffie’s district office at 717-534-1323 no later than Monday, Oct. 29. Veterans requiring assistance due to a disability are permitted to bring a guest. Originally open only to veterans residing in care facilities, the event was opened to all veterans after Mehaffie’s second Veterans Breakfast reached full capacity.

Halloween Parade Winners Announced The Kiwanis Club of Middletown recently held its 65th annual Middletown Halloween Parade. Prizes were awarded to various participants. The 2018 Judges’ Prize was awarded

to Girls Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania Troop 11052 for its entry, “Girl Scout Cookie Boxes.” The troop also won first place in the Original Group category. In the Cutest category, Kalina Daveler

and Laura Hoffman won with “Good Little Witch.” Emma Smith was awarded first place in the Original Individual category . In addition to Troop 11052 taking

home top honors in the Original Group category, winners included Amanda, William, Harper, and Makenna Stone; Elise and Mickey Richards; and Cody and Hannah Book in second place with See Halloween Parade pg 12

Royalton Emergency Management Agency (REMA) will hold a pancake breakfast on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Royalton Senior Center, 101 Northumberland St., Royalton. The inaugural World Restart a Heart Day took place on Oct. 16. Sponsored by the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) and supported in the United States by the American Heart Association, the campaign was designed to promote bystander CPR worldwide. The awareness day focused on HandsOnly CPR training and the importance of immediate action to help save more lives from cardiac arrest globally. The campaign theme, “All Citizens of the World Can Save a Life,” reinforces the idea that Hands-Only CPR is simple and effective and can be performed by anyone. In fact, travelers passing through select airports across the country, including Harrisburg International Airport, can learn how to save a life by visiting one of the American Heart Association’s Hands-Only CPR See Hands-Only CPR pg 4

GEARS will hold its ninth annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Elizabethtown Fairgrounds, 900 E. High St., Elizabethtown. The Fall Festival offers a variety of activities for people of all ages. The perennially popular hayride and barrel

train ride will be back again, along with pumpkin golf, rock ’n’ roll racing with remote-controlled race cars, and inflatable rides. Other attractions will include an Activity Fun Fair hosted in conjunction with Elizabethtown College’s “Into the Streets” program. See Fall Festival pg 4
