The Korean War Veterans and Defenders will meet on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 10 a.m. at the Vietnam Veterans Building, 8000 Derry St., Harrisburg. The gathering is an important meeting to determine the permanent establishment of this local chapter. Members and their spouses are invited to attend. Geyers United Methodist Church (UMC), 1605 S. Geyers Church Road, Middletown, will hold its annual community Trunk or Treat on Wednesday, Oct. 17. The evening of light-hearted and safe fun is open to the entire family. Children age 12 and under are invited to dress in costume and bring a bag along to collect treats. Trunk or Treating will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the church’s upper parking lot. More than 25 decorated car trunks

Hershey Area Women’s Connection will host a “Step Out in October” brunch buffet at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Hershey Italian Lodge, 128 Hillcrest Road, Hershey. The event will feature music by Kathy Kent of Harrisburg and a presentation by Dawn Loken of Lancaster. There is a cost to attend, which is all-inclusive. ANNUAL WALK

A variety of foods from Eastern Europe and East Africa will be available during the annual Slavic “Plus” Food Fest at Christ the Saviour Orthodox Church in Harrisburg on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 6 and 7.

Capital City Polka Dancers Association will hold a dance on Saturday, Oct. 13, at Monaghan Fire Hall, 245 W. Siddonsburg Road, Dillsburg, from 5 to 9 p.m. Joe Stanky and the Cadets will provide the music, and food will be available for purchase. The dance is open to the public. Church Plans Ethnic Food Festival Capital Region Heart Walk Held

Christ the Saviour Orthodox Church, 5501 Old Locust Lane, Harrisburg, will hold its annual ethnic food festival, the Slavic “Plus” Food Fest, in the church’s fellowship hall on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 6 and 7, from noon to 3 p.m. The event will feature traditional delicacies from two different parts of the world, Eastern Europe and East Africa.

The annual food festival will include giveaway drawings for more than three dozen themed baskets, a vendor fair featuring specialty merchants, Orthodox Christian religious articles and books available for purchase, and tours of Christ the Saviour Orthodox Church. Nearly 2,000 walkers turned out for the 2018 Capital Region Heart Walk at Harrisburg’s City Island on Sept. 16, raising $577,000 for the American Heart Association. The fundraising total is expected to climb as additional donations are accepted through Tuesday, Oct. 16. Before departing on the walk around City Island and across the walking bridge to Front Street in Harrisburg, walkers had the opportunity to learn about heart health, receive a free blood pressure screening, learn HandsOnly CPR, try some healthy snacks and infused water and take a “Healthy Selfie” at the photo booth. Geyers UMC Will Host Trunk Or Treat

LADIES’ BRUNCH

will sponsor its 16th annual Vickie’s Angel Walk and Gathering on Saturday, Oct. 13, at New Cumberland Borough Park, Front Street, New Cumberland. Registration is slated for 8 a.m., and the program will begin at 9:15 a.m., with the walk kicking off at 10 a.m. The event will be held rain or shine. In addition to the walk, the event will feature food, prize drawings, and more. There is no fee to register.
