FOOD SALE
The Circle of Serbian Sisters of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church will hold its annual palacinke and bake sale on Sunday, Oct. 7, in the social hall at the church, 601 S. Harrisburg St., Oberlin, from noon until the food is sold out. The event is open to the public. The sale will include a variety of homemade ethnic baked goods and palacinke, crepes filled with cheese, apple butter or strawberry. The palacinke must be ordered by calling 717-566-7333 by Sunday, Sept. 30. Separate prices have been set for the cheese variety and for the apple butter and strawberry varieties. Quantities are limited.

Kiwanis Club Plans Halloween Parade The Kiwanis Club of Middletown will hold its 65th annual Halloween Parade on Monday, Oct. 15. The rain date is Tuesday, Oct. 16.

CHICKEN BARBECUE
The Lower Swatara Lions Club will hold a chicken barbecue on Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Lions Building in Shopes Gardens. Pickup will be from noon to 2 p.m. Meals will include a half-chicken, a baked potato, applesauce, and a roll. Tickets can be purchased from members of the club, and some dinners will be available to be purchased on the day of the event. COMMUNITY GATHERING
Royalton Emergency Management Agency (REMA) will host an ice cream social and car and motorcycle show on Sunday, Sept. 23, from 2 to 7 p.m. at Kiwanis Park, Route 441, Royalton. Music will be provided, and there will be food, cake walks, and more. In the case of rain, the event will take place on Sunday, Sept. 30. For more information, visit www.royaltonpa.com.
The Harrisburg Area Civic Garden Center Inc. (HACGC) will sponsor a bus trip to the American Music Theatre’s Christmas show, “The First Noel,” on Thursday, Nov. 29. The show includes seasonal and sacred Christmas songs, accomplished vocal talent, dancers, sets and stories. After the matinee, the motor coach will stop at a restaurant for a Pennsylvania Dutch traditional family-style meal. The fee includes the show, dinner and all gratuities. The bus will depart from the parking lot of Weis Markets, 4300 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, at 1 p.m. and return at approximately 8:15 p.m. To make reservations, call 717-545-3245. Dauphin County 4-H Fair Held
Scouts Conduct Court Of Honor
The Dauphin County 4-H Fair recently took place at Pennsylvania’s Farm Show Complex. Members exhibited projects they have been working on for most of a year. The 4-H Fair began on Aug. 9 with the categories of Family Living, 4-H Opportunities, Poultry, Pets, Small Animal, Dairy Cattle, Dairy Goat, and
Londonderry Township Boy Scout Troop 97 recently held its summer Court of Honor. Second Class Scout Bryson Harris served as the master of ceremonies. Scouts and leaders shared their favorite summer camping story, most memorable community service moment or outstanding Scouting event. The end-of-summer theme was celebrated with a seafood boil feast and a wet-and-wild version of gaga, a ball pit game that was played under a water sprinkler. Life Scout Leo Nissley and Scoutmaster Dr. Joe Jilka administered the oath of Tenderfoot rank to Joe Myers. Joe was advanced to the rank of Tenderfoot because he mastered numerous skills including preparing and cooking meals on campouts, first aid techniques, safe hiking rules and intricate knot-tying. In addition, Joe served in numerous community service projects that helped him reach his requirements for advancement. See Scouts pg 6
Horse Grooming and Showmanship. Aug. 10 featured the Horse Show, Rabbit and Cavy, and Swine Showmanship, followed by the categories of Small Animal, Family Living, and 4-H Opportunities Clover. The fair ended on Aug. 11 with Sheep, Beef, Dairy, Dairy Beef, Market, Meat Goat, and Large Animal Clover. See 4-H Fair pg 2
“A Night Of Smiles” Scheduled Caitlin’s Smiles will host A Night of Smiles on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel Harrisburg, 1150 Camp Hill Bypass, Camp Hill. The eighth annual art auction will feature a silent auction of pieces donated by artisans, including paintings, pottery, textiles, jewelry, and more. Attendees may also bid on artwork made by children impacted by Caitlin’s Smiles. The special guest and speaker will
be BethAnn Telford, a cancer survivor, triathlete, motivational speaker, and fundraiser for brain cancer research. Telford was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in 2015. After several surgeries, she ran several marathons and participated in triathlete competitions. In 2017, she competed in the World Marathon Challenge, running seven marathons in seven days, on seven continents. See Caitlin s Smiles pg 2
