The Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Hobby Greenhouse Association will meet on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 9 a.m. at the Lower Allen Township Building, 2233 Gettysburg Road, Camp Hill. Dennis Mawhinney, a York County Master Gardener, will present a program titled “You and Your Plants Will Love LED Lighting in the Greenhouse.” Members may share garden tips in an open discussion. The Elizabethtown Community Chorus has announced openings for all voice parts. Rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays from 7:30 to 9:20 p.m. in Leffler Chapel on the campus of Elizabethtown College, 1 Alpha Drive, Elizabethtown. The first rehearsal will take place on Aug. 28. Singers age 16 and up are welcome to join the group regardless of experience. Faculty members, staff members, students and community members are welcome. Concerts will include the Fall Homecoming Concert on Saturday, Oct. 20, and the American Family Christmas concert on Sunday, Dec. 9. Touring Artist Series Concert Will Showcase Pianist The Wednesday Club’s Touring Artist Series will present pianist Dr. Katelyn Bouska in concert on Sunday, Aug. 26, at 4 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 15 S. Fourth St., Harrisburg. The concert will celebrate the 90th anniversary of the birth of Czech composer Miloslav Istvan. The concert will feature Istvan’s music as well as duo pieces with violinist Jambol Leuenberger. The concert is free, but donations will be accepted at the door. The End of Prostate Cancer will join Urology of Central Pennsylvania to host the ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk on Friday, Sept. 21. The goal is to create Generation ZERO - the first generation of men free of prostate cancer. Participants will run and walk together on Sept. 21 at 5:30 p.m. to fight a disease that takes the life of an American man every 18 minutes. The race will take place at City Island at the Carousel Pavilion, Harrisburg. Run/Walk participants will receive tech shirts, free food and prizes, and the opportunity to connect with others who are impacted by prostate cancer. Proceeds will go toward local and national efforts to provide research for new treatments, to enhance patient support resources, and to educate men and families about prostate cancer. will lead the third annual Geological Tour through the property of the Haldeman Mansion, 230 Locust Grove Road, Bainbridge, on Saturday, Aug. 25, at 10 a.m. Jones will guide participants, and the group will circle the mansion, making seven stops. He will share what lies beneath the ground’s surface; the origins of the rocks used to construct the building; artifacts found in the area; the geological history of the area, including the Susquehanna River and Conoy Creek; and Samuel Haldeman’s activities as an early geologist. Jones has studied the area’s geology for more than 37 years and has spent time unraveling the geologic mysteries related to the mansion. The easy walking tour is appropriate for people of all ages. Participants should wear comfortable shoes. In the case of inclement weather, Jones will present a slideshow inside the mansion.
