Quartet Will Present Concert

Night at the Museum, an annual fundraising event for the AACA Museum, will recognize individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to the automotive hobby. This year, the AACA Museum Automotive Heritage Award honorees are Bill Miller Jr. and the late Elliot “Chip” Miller, founders of Carlisle Events, which provides classic and collector car entertainment.

The Group of Frogs (Encouragement) As a group of frogs was traveling through the woods, two of them fell into a deep pit. When the other frogs crowded around the pit and saw how deep it was, they told the two frogs that there was no hope left for them.

However, the two frogs decided to ignore what the others were saying and they proceeded to try and jump out of the pit.

Despite their efforts, the group of frogs at the top of the pit were still saying that they should just give up. That they would never make it out.

Eventually, one of the frogs took heed to what the others were saying and he gave up, falling down to his death. The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and just die.

He jumped even harder and finally made it out. When he got out, the other frogs said, “Did you not hear us?”

The frog explained to them that he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the entire time.

Recipe of the Week Easy Broccoli Chicken Divan A quick and easy dish that everybody will love!

Ingredients: 1 pound chopped fresh broccoli 1 1/2 cups cubed, cooked chicken meat 1 10.75-ounce can condensed cream of broccoli soup 1/3 cup milk 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese 1 tablespoon butter, melted 2 tablespoons dried bread crumbs Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. 2. Place the broccoli in a saucepan with enough water to cover. Bring to a boil, and cook 5 minutes or until tender. Drain.

3. Place the cooked broccoli in a 9-inch pie plate. Top with the chicken. In a bowl, mix the soup and milk, and pour over the chicken. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese.

Mix the melted butter with the bread crumbs, and sprinkle over the cheese.

4. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 min-

Geisinger Announces New Partnership Geisinger has announced its has formed a partnership with Medial EarlySign, which creates machine learning-based solutions to aid in early detection and prevention of high-burden diseases. Medical EarlySign is partnering with Geisinger and its Steele Institute for Health Innovation to develop and deploy a suite of machine learning-based solutions to identify individuals at risk for a range of chronic and high-burden diseases.

Partnering with Geisinger’s Steele Institute for Health Innovation, EarlySign’s LGI-Flag solution will be deployed to help health care practitioners identify patients who are at risk for significant lower GI disorders.

LGI-Flag is an advanced software solution that analyzes medical data,

including changes in routine blood tests, to flag those who will benefit from further evaluation. Reflecting the Steele Institute’s efforts to transform health care delivery by implementing solutions that improve health, patient experience, care delivery and affordability, the partnership will also explore additional opportunities to benefit patients and their care providers.

LGI-Flag has been used in health care systems around the world since 2015 to identify patients at risk for lower GI disorders associated with chronic occult bleeding. The technology will form the basis for Geisinger and EarlySign to address similar opportunities with other acute and chronic diseases. The partnership will make use of Geisinger’s infrastructure, data assets and care teams.

Exhibit from pg 1 The National Civil War Museum, 1 Lincoln Circle at Reservoir Park, Harrisburg, has announced an addition to its temporary exhibit space, “Boots and Saddles: Horses in the Civil War.�

The exhibit examines the employment of horses and their indispensability during the war. The need for horses during the four-year war never slackened, and these equines performed a variety of tasks, from pulling supply wagons and ambulances to carrying scouts behind enemy lines and cavalry troopers in desperate charges. Thousands of horses died in the line of duty during the war. Some died on

The Penn-Cumberland Garden Club (PCGC) recently awarded 2019-20 Esther Kolze scholarships to Caleb Smith of York, Nicole Guise of Spring Grove and Courtney Fleisher of Newport. Fleisher and Smith received their awards during PCGC’s June monthly meeting held at the Camp Hill Borough Hall in Camp Hill.

Smith, a $500 recipient, is a West York Area High School 2019 graduate who plans to major in ecological biology at Messiah College this fall.

Guise received a scholarship worth $500. Guise is currently studying agricultural sciences at Schreyer Honors College at Pennsylvania State University Park. She is a member of the Class of 2021.

Fleisher received $1,000. She is currently studying environmental science at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College and will continue her studies at Pennsylvania State University this fall.

Gretna Music will host a concert by the Amjad Ali Khan Sarod Trilogy on Sunday, July 28, at 7:30 p.m. at the Mount Gretna Playhouse, 200 Pennsylvania Ave., Mount Gretna.

Khan is known as the most famous living sarod player. He will perform along with his two sarod player sons and a tabla player. Khan and his sons represent the sixth and seventh generations of their family’s famed classical Indian musicians.

Khan, a Grammy Award nominee and an author, acts as a visiting professor to schools across America. His sons have performed at such venues as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Chicago Symphony Center, and the Smithsonian.

The sarod is a stringed musical instrument used in classical Indian music. It is most commonly used in the Hindustani music tradition. Hindustani music is found in Northern India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. The sarod is made of wood and parched skin. The sound of the instrument is pure and resonant.

The Dauphin County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR) has awarded two $1,000 scholarships for 2019. PASR is a service organization composed of retired teachers, counselors, administrators, secretaries, support professionals, custodial staff, and other personnel who are dedicated to serving others in need.

The 2019 recipients are September Nguyen from Central Dauphin East High School and Nakiah Baker from Halifax High School. Both recipients plan to attend Messiah College. September will study elementary and special education, and Nakiah will study secondary English and ESL education.

The Dauphin County chapter’s scholarship committee distributed scholarship information to each public high school in Dauphin County. Guidance counselors submitted the required documents for qualified students who are pursuing careers in the field of education. Scholarship applications were to meet the following criteria: academic achievement, leadership, service to others, and financial need. High school transcripts, SAT scores, vitae, a personal essay, and letters of recommendation were submitted. After much consideration, the committee selected September and Nakiah as the scholarship recipients.

Newly Expanded Inpatient Unit Opens

Mantha Kotsalos, senior director of inpatient services for WellSpan Philhaven, said the expanded unit is intended to help meet a growing need for behavioral health care across central Pennsylvania. A Community Health Needs Assessment conducted by WellSpan Health identified access to comprehensive behavioral health services as a key need across the region.

In response, WellSpan Philhaven is working to improve access to behavioral health care for patients at primary care offices, offering more online services and group therapy services. WellSpan Philhaven also has expanded behavioral health care offered in emergency rooms at WellSpan hospitals across the region.

The expanded extended acute unit is one of three inpatient units at the WellSpan Philhaven 118-bed hospital in Mount Gretna, which includes a 44-bed acute unit for adults and a 34-bed acute unit for children and adolescents. Outpatient therapy, day hospital, peer support and other services also are offered at the Mount Gretna campus.

The Mount Gretna campus also is home to Green Pasture, a separate 16-bed behavioral health care residence operated for and by the Plain community.

WellSpan Philhaven is a behavioral health organization, with locations across Adams, Lancaster, Lebanon and York counties. It offers more than 50 programs at almost 30 locations, serving children, adolescents and adults.

World War II Roundtable Will Welcome Speaker Charles Brooking will be the guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the Central Pennsylvania World War II Roundtable on Thursday, Aug. 1, at 7 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 433 E. Main St., Hummelstown.

Brooking served aboard a PT boat in the Pacific during World War II and saw combat duty near the Solomon Islands and Guadalcanal. Brooking served in the U.S. Navy beginning in early 1944. He had two years

WellSpan Philhaven has opened an expanded inpatient unit at its Mount Gretna campus, with the aim of improving access to behavioral health care across central Pennsylvania. The expanded unit was scheduled to open to patients on July 22.

The expansion added 5,000 square feet and 15 beds to the hospital’s extended acute unit increasing the total number of beds in the unit to 40 - at its main hospital building on South Butler Road. The extended acute unit offers care for patients with complex mental health needs who require a longer-term hospital stay of up to six months.

The expansion of the unit is part of a larger $3.4 million construction project that began in January at the Mount Gretna campus.

The project also includes a separate, new 9,300-square-foot administrative building, which is scheduled to open by the end of the year, as well as new offices and conference rooms in the Mount Gretna main hospital building. Heck Construction of Denver is the general contractor for the project.

The project will add approximately 25 jobs at WellSpan Philhaven.

The newly expanded unit features ligature-free fixtures and furnishings, an activities room with large windows and a mix of private and semi-private rooms. Patients can leave the unit to eat in the main cafeteria in the Mount Gretna hospital building, as well as to take walks and to return to their communities, as staff members work to

Companies Announce Feel The Love Program The Helping Hands committee at HB McClure Company has announced the company will participate in a program offered by Lennox Industries called Feel the Love. With the support of Lennox dealers like HB McClure, the program will donate home heating and cooling systems, including equipment, installation materials, and time, to neighbors in need across the U.S. and Canada. Lennox will donate the equipment, and HB McClure will donate labor and materials to select customers within its service area who are nominated and chosen based on criteria provided

RK Praise will present a concert on Saturday, Aug. 10, at 7 p.m. RK Praise consists of Russell and Kristi Johnson from Myrtle Beach, S.C. The duo plays contemporary praise music.

McMinn Celebrates 90th Birthday

Bertha McMinn, a lifelong resident of Middletown, celebrated her 90th birthday at a party on July 7. Family and friends assembled at the Vineyard of Hershey for the party, which was hosted by Berthaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s three children, Linda Waple of Middletown; Jan, wife of John Stoner of Granger, Ind.; and Bill, husband of Jane McMinn of Mount Joy. Guests mingled and reminisced while a video montage of old photos was projected on one wall. The tables were decorated with teapots and teacups filled with roses as well as teabag angel favors. A large, rose-decorated frame was available as a prop for photo opportunities with Bertha.

Among the guests were old school classmates, current and previous neigh-

bors, and members of the Rebecca Class from the Riverside Chapel Sunday school.

Berthaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s brother, Jim Gotshall of Elizabethtown; her cousin Pete May of Middletown; and a host of grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, nieces, and nephews were also in attendance. Extended family traveled from as far away as Oregon, Utah, and Florida to attend.

Well-wishers showered Bertha with cards, and the children presented her with a floral arrangement that included a dozen pink long-stem roses. A toast was offered and a buffet luncheon provided.

The gathering concluded with the singing of â&#x20AC;&#x153;Happy Birthdayâ&#x20AC;? around a cake decorated with roses and lace, followed by cupcakes for all.
