CHICKEN BARBECUE
The Lower Swatara Lions Club will hold a chicken barbecue on Saturday, May 18, at the Lions building in Shopes Gardens. Each dinner will include a half-chicken, a baked potato, applesauce and a roll. Meals will be available for pickup from noon to 2 p.m. Tickets may be purchased from any Lions Club member. A limited number of dinners will be available for purchase at the event. ANNUAL PICNIC
St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church will hold its annual picnic on Sunday, June 2, from noon to 8 p.m. at Serb Park, 1131 Eisenhower Blvd., Harrisburg. The event will feature ethnic foods, including Serbian pastries, and continuous musical entertainment and children’s activities. Admission and parking are free and open to the public. Brittany’s Hope will benefit from a bingo event on Sunday, May 19, at Londonderry Fire Hall, 2655 Foxianna Road, Middletown. Doors will open at noon, and the event will start at 1 p.m. Tickets will be discounted in advance at www.brittanys hope.org/fundraiser/bingo or full price at the door. The members of Boy Scout Troop 97 of Londonderry Township have been busy learning, exploring, and serving. The troop participated in a weekend event to earn the Automotive Maintenance Merit Badge. Skills taught by Assistant Scoutmasters Chris Hoyt and Matthew Pauley included tire replacement and alignment, checking fluids and filters, and the parts of an engine and how these parts work together. Safety was also discussed. To end the weekend, the boys enjoyed an afternoon of electric kart racing. The Scouts also visited the U.S. Army Heritage Center in Carlisle to explore the military’s past. Hiking along the Army Heritage Trail, they saw military exhibits from different eras, including See Scouts pg 4

First “Walk For Love” Announced Students Participate In Convention Zembo Shrine in Harrisburg will hold its inaugural Walk for Love fundraiser to benefit Shriners Hospital Philadelphia on Saturday, June 22, at Italian Lake, Harrisburg. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at Zembo Shrine, 2801 N. Third St., Harrisburg. Participants will walk around
Italian Lake beginning at 10 a.m. Walk for Love will include a children’s play area, food, and a disc jockey. The Zembo Shrine clowns will perform along the walk route. Shriners Hospital Philadelphia is one of 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children See Walk For Love pg 12
Program To Offer Travel Tips The Middletown Home, 999 W. Harrisburg Pike, Middletown, will present “Travel Like a Pro! Tips and Tricks for Travelers Ages 5 to 105” on Monday, May 20, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The free informative session will be presented by Debi Damon, a travel consultant, who understands the unique needs of senior travelers. Some of her favorite destinations include France, Jamaica, Pensacola,
and Williamsburg, Va. will hold a low-cost vaccine clinic for cats and dogs on Sunday, May 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at PAWS, 9803 Jonestown Road, Grantville. Veterinarian Kate Papp will provide distemper and rabies vaccinations for cats and dogs; for a three-year rabies vaccination, owners must provide proof of previous rabies vaccination. Microchips will also be available for a set fee, with the price including registration. This will be a firstcome, first-served clinic. Breeders will not be serviced.
