GENEALOGY PROGRAM
Lower Swatara Township Historic Preservation Society will host a presentation on genealogy by Joanna Matincheck Cain at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, at Lower Swatara Township Firehouse, 1350 Fulling Mill Road, Middletown. Participants will learn how to search for information about their ancestors using free, online resources. The program and coffee are free, and the event is open to the public. Run With Heart 5K/10K Planned
The American Heart Association invites runners and walkers from across the Susquehanna Valley to the inaugural Run With Heart 5K/10K on Sunday, May 19, at Milton Hershey School. Registration and festivities will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Henry Hershey Field, 635 Brook Drive, Hershey. The race will kick off at 9 a.m. Participants can run or walk the first 5K loop, then continue for a second loop to complete a full 10K. The course is mostly flat and stroller-friendly. All preregistered participants will receive an event T-shirt. WMSS 91.1 FM, the Middletown Area School District’s student radio station, will hold its annual chicken barbecue on Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the rear of the Middletown Area Middle School, 215 Oberlin Road. The event will take place rain or shine. Dinners do not need to be ordered in advance. WMSS completed its tower
and power raise upgrades this past year. Approximately 35 students and several adult staff members are involved with WMSS 91.1 FM. The station airs numerous Middletown and Lebanon Valley College football and basketball games, church services, music and public affairs programming. WMSS is celebrating 40 years on the air.

Organizing a successful race takes a village of enthusiastic volunteers, and the members of the Elizabethtown Rotary Club are all set to provide an abundance of cheer for the annual Mother’s Day 5K on Sunday, May 12. Registration and packet pickup will open at 1:30 p.m., with the race stepping off at 3 p.m. in the Veterans Grove area of Masonic Village, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown. According to Rotarian and event organizer Dan Brill, the event is a community celebration of all mothers. All mothers in attendance, whether participants or spectators, will receive a complimentary flower. “Our goal is to honor moms in a healthy and fun way on their day,” Brill said. “We understand it can be a busy day and not everyone can fit it in their schedule. Sophia York and Mason Garza were selected as the Middletown Area High School (MAHS) Students of the Month for April. They were selected by their teachers. Sophia is the daughter of Thomas York. Sophia is a Mini-THON chair and the Key Club webmaster. She also participated in the EPI Challenge and is a Science and Health Pathway leader and representative for her involvement in
and passion for health. Sophia is both AED/CPR certified and first aid certified, and she has been a student athletic trainer for more than two years. Sophia volunteers with Junior Achievement and Special Olympics. After high school, Sophia plans to attend Wilkes University to study nursing, with the goal of becoming a nurse anesthetist.
