Eight Middletown Area School District students were recently recognized for winning the 2019 American Legion Essay Contest. At a dinner hosted by the American Legion on March 17, the students received certificates and small monetary gifts. This year’s essay topic was “How can we address and prevent veteran homelessness in our communities?” The winners were as follows: Class I: Reece Young, third-grader at Reid, in first place and Tobias Przybylski, third-grader at Reid, in second place. Class II: Zoe Handwerk, fifth-grader at Kunkel, first place; Cassidy Pomraning, sixth-grader at Middletown Area Middle School (MAMS), second place; and Strummer Woodworth, fifth-grader at Kunkel, third place. Class III: Ryan Foreacre, sixth-grader at MAMS, first place; Max Dupes, seventh-grader at MAMS, second place; and Aurora Demko, eighth-grader MAMS, third place.

Students Compete In Science Fair Golf Outing To Benefit Hartman Center

Aayushi Patel was one of eight Grand Champion Finalists at the Capital Area Science and Engineering Fair. She received other accolades, as well.

Middletown Area High School student Aayushi Patel, 12th grade, won first place in the Mathematics division at the Capital Area Science and Engineering Fair, held on March 5 at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College. Her project, “Detecting Genotypic Drivers,” also earned her a place in the group of Grand Champion Finalists, which were the top eight projects out of 363 submissions. Patel also received a six-year participant award, the BioGenius Award, and an invitation to the Wolfram Research Institute Summer Camp. In addition, she was the recipient of the Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Award for the most creative, challenging, thorough, and original investigation of a project involving mathematics. Summer camping programs at Hartman Center will benefit from the 12th annual Hartman Center Golf Outing. The event will take place on Saturday, May 11, at Fairview Golf Course in Lebanon.

The 12th annual Hartman Center Golf Outing will be held on Saturday, May 11, at Fairview Golf Course, 2399 Quentin Road, Lebanon. Golf will begin at 1:30 p.m. with a shotgun start. Contest prizes will include a hole-inone prize. The fee to participate includes golf, the use of a cart and dinner. Funds from the outing will go toward summer programs and scholarships. Summer camping programs at Hartman Center offer an opportunity for people to spend a week sharing their faith, enjoying the outdoors, and having fellowship. Five weeks of camp will be offered from Sunday, June 23, through Saturday, July 27. One of these weeks, from Sunday to Saturday, July 7 to 13, will have a special focus on the arts and will include the MADD See Golf Outing pg 12
