GOLF TOURNAMENT

GEARS will hold its 13th annual Spring Mix Golf Tournament at Sunset Golf Club, 2601 Sunset Drive, Middletown, on Friday, April 26, with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Dinner will be included. Participants will experience three different formats throughout their round. Games will consist of six holes of scramble, six holes of alternate shot and six holes of best ball. Separate fees have been set for individual players and for teams of four players. The U.S. Army Field Band’s Concert Band and Soldiers’ Chorus will stop in Middletown during its spring concert tour. The groups will perform on Sunday, April 14, at Middletown Area High School, 1155 N. Union St., Middletown, at 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The U.S. Army Field Band tours nationally and internationally, serving as a liaison between the Army and the American people. The Army Field Band consists of four performing components and an educational program. At the direction of Col. Jim Keene, the Concert Band performances give the Army Field Band the opportunity to connect with

Americans in their hometown and tell the Army story. Each U.S. Army Field Band concert tour is sponsored by a local organization with the mission of supporting local community events such as centennial celebrations, festivals, and city and state commemorations. Agriculture Secretary Visits School Kunkel Elementary received a visit from Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding during Pennsylvania Ag Literacy Week, which was celebrated from March 18 to 22. The purpose of Ag Literacy Week is to help students learn about agriculture by introducing them to members of the agricultural community and providing classroom readings and interactive activities. Redding and deputy secretaries visited first- and second-grade students at four elementary schools across the mid-state. On March 18, Redding visited Lori D’Amour’s second-grade classroom to

Church Will Hold Community Egg Hunt Geyers United Methodist Church, 1605 S. Geyers Church Road, Middletown, will host its annual community Easter egg hunt on Palm Sunday, April 14, at 2 p.m. The egg hunt is free and open to children age 12 and under. The event will be held rain, snow or shine. Children are encouraged to bring their baskets to collect some of the nearly 4,000 eggs that will be scattered across the church lawn. In addition to the candy they find in their eggs, each child will receive a ticket to choose several toys at the prize tables. See Easter Egg Hunt pg 4
