American Legion Post Celebrates Anniversary American Legion Post 594 held a 100-year anniversary celebration on March 17 to commemorate the founding of the American Legion in 1919. During the celebration, Post 594 honored the Middletown and Lower Swatara Firemen of the Year and Policemen of the Year, as well as children who
participated in an essay contest focused on homeless veterans. Post 594 provided meals for a total of approximately 150 guests and members during the celebration. Gov. Tom Wolf recently issued a proclamation recognizing March 15 as Pennsylvania American Legion Day in
honor of the Legion’s 100th anniversary. In his proclamation, Wolf noted that the American Legion supports veterans and their families, mentors youths, promotes patriotism, and promotes strong national security. On March 15, 1919, the American Legion was founded in Paris, France, by
members of the American Expeditionary Force. Since then, the Pennsylvania American Legion has expanded to include more than 140,000 legionnaires and more than 120,000 family members in 700-plus Pennsylvania American Legion posts, squadrons, chapters, and units.
American Legion Post 594 held an event on March 17 to celebrate the American Legion’s 100th anniversary. Among the activities were a meal, opportunities for socializing, and recognition of local students and first responders.
