The Epsilon Sigma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will present the 21st annual AfricanAmerican Read-In on Saturday, Feb. 23, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at SteeltonHighspire Elementary School, 250 Reynders St., Steelton. The purpose of the event is to make AfricanAmerican literature a traditional part of black history. The free event will feature African-American authors and illustrators, and there will be a special HBCU 4 Life presentation. Free books and family fun will be offered, and refreshments will be available. Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite college shirt or hat for the book parade. All school-age children and their parents are welcome to attend. MARDIS GRAS CELEBRATION
St. Ann Byzantine Catholic Church, 5408 Locust Lane, Harrisburg, will host Mardi Gras - Slavic Style on Saturday, March 2, from 4 to 10 p.m. The event will feature fun and games and homemade ethnic food for all ages. Takeoutonly food service will begin at 3 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by The Polka Whooo and Pete the disc jockey. Admission is free. For details, visit www.stannbyz.org. Annual Ball Will Support Heart Association The American Heart Association, a voluntary health organization focused on heart and brain health, invites business, health care and community leaders from across the Harrisburg area to attend the 2019 Capital Region Heart Ball. The event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 6 p.m. at the Hershey Lodge, 325 University Drive, Hershey. Tom Russell from a local television news station will host the evening’s festivities, which will include silent and live auctions, a heart-healthy dinner, musical entertainment and dancing. The evening’s Open Your Heart appeal will be dedicated to the memory of John Koury, a longtime supporter of the Capital Region Heart Ball who died unexpectedly of a heart attack in June 2018. His wife, Cheryl Koury, will share his story and her mission to See Heart Ball pg 2
Dancing and a heart-healthy dinner will be part of the festivities during the 2019 Capital Region Heart Ball on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Hershey Lodge. Proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association.

The New Birth of Freedom Council, Keystone Capital District will host the 2019 Keystone Capital District Pinewood Derby on Saturday, March 2, at the Antique Automobile Club of America, 161 Museum Drive, Hershey. Doors will open and derby registration will begin at 9 a.m. The derby is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. The Keystone Capital District invites all Cub Scouts in Dauphin County to participate in the Pinewood Derby. Family members and friends of Scouts can also participate in the friends and family race. There is an entry fee per car for both
the Scouts and the friends and family races. Awards will be presented for fastest average time with first-, second-, and third-place finishers and for Best in Show for each Cub Scout classification. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
