Students Learn To Program Robots A few years ago, Middletown Area School District (MASD) was the recipient of a grant from Penn State Harrisburg Capital Area Institute for Mathematics and Science, which gifted the district with several sets of robotic devices. The devices were found to be

effective in enhancing instruction, so it was decided that a set should be available in each of the five district schools. The mini spherical robots can be programmed with an app and are primarily used to engage students in coding activities. The robots, which can change

color and make sounds, have been used by MASD at all grade levels and in various subjects, including English Language Learning, art, coding, and trigonometry. The robots have been featured on “Raider Newscast 13 with TIM&tim.” On the show, four

fifth-graders at Fink Elementary School demonstrated “driving” the robots through a maze while trying not to let the robots touch the walls of the maze. To view the “Raider Newscast” episode, readers may visit www.youtube.com and search for “Raider Newscast 13 December 14, 2018.”
