LADIES’ BRUNCH

Hershey Area Women’s Connection will present the “A New Outlook for the New Year” Brunch Buffet at Hershey Italian Lodge, 128 Hillcrest Road, Hershey, on Wednesday, Jan. 9, from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. All ladies are invited. The group is affiliated with Christian Women’s Clubs of America. The feature will be presented by Kathleen Forney, a fused glass artist and teacher from Elizabethtown. Jeremy and Lisa Shaver, a piano duo from Middletown, will perform. “An Anchor for Life” will be presented by speaker Carol LeBeau. Capital City Polka Dancers Association will hold a dance on Saturday, Jan. 12, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Monaghan Township Fire Hall, 245 W. Siddonsbury Road, Dillsburg. The Polka Quads will perform. will get together for a lunch social on Thursday, Jan. 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hoss’s Steak & Sea House, 9009 Bridge Road (Route 322), Hummelstown. A banquet room will be provided by the restaurant. Retirees will be responsible for purchasing their own meals, and meal orders will be taken at the table after being seated. The purpose of the group is to meet quarterly on a social basis. All Hershey Medical Center retirees are welcome. The American Legion Post 594 held a Christmas party for children on Dec. 16. Post 594 provided presents for more than 90 children of all ages. Hot dogs, cookies, and beverages were available, as well. All presents and food were offered free of charge.

Open Stage Sets Performances DAR Chapter Places Wreaths At Fort Indiantown Gap

Open Stage of Harrisburg, 25 N. Court St., Harrisburg, will present “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow Is Enuf.” Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, and from Wednesday, Jan. 23, through Saturday, Jan. 26, as well as at 2 p.m. on Sundays, Jan. 20 and 27.

The award-winning play is by Ntozake Shange, who passed away on Oct. 27, 2018, at 70 years old. Through movement, song, poetry and spoken word, seven women of color will tell stories of struggle, abandonment, pain, selfdiscovery, and sisterhood. On Dec. 14, 2018, the Harrisburg Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) placed 230 name-specific wreaths at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery to honor those who have served. These special placements were laid by volunteers, and a picture of each headstone with the wreath was taken to be sent to the relatives who had ordered the placement. Again on Dec. 15, members of the Harrisburg Chapter of the DAR, along with other DAR members from around the state, attended the memorial ceremony and assisted with laying the thousands of wreaths still to be placed.
