GriefShare is a weekly seminar and support group for people who are grieving the death of someone close to them. Teal Sisters Seek To Raise Awareness Green. “But we’re not silent about it.” To jumpstart those efforts, the Teal Sisters marched in the Millersville Parade in 2017, flanked by a teal pickup truck as they handed out teal mints and lollipops and information about ovarian cancer and its symptoms. According to Lewandowski, who leads educational presentations on the topic with other Teal Sisters, ovarian cancer is usually not detected until it has progressed to stage three or four, but early detection can mean the difference between life and death. Lewandowski references the BEAT acronym provided by the NormaLeah Ovarian Cancer Initiative when teaching others about the symptoms, which include: Bloating that is persistent; Eating less, feeling fuller; Abdominal and/or back pain; and Trouble with bladder and bowels. “The big thing is if See Teal Sisters pg 5

Kate Green, Kathy Kuhns, Maureen Lewandowski, and Connie Radziewicz are just a few of the 20-plus women who make up the Teal Sisters, a multigenerational support group for women diagnosed with ovarian cancer. After crossing paths at the office of Dr. Jacqueline Evans, a Lancaster-area gynecologic oncologist, the ladies began meeting together in 2015 on the fourth Tuesday of each month to talk and support one another. Teal is the color that symbolizes ovarian cancer, so the ladies also sport the shade for Teal Tuesdays. “We met informally at each other’s houses but decided in addition to talking about where we were and laughing, we’d (raise) some awareness, because ovarian cancer is silent,” explained

Scoutmaster Recognized For 50 Years Of Service

800 E. King St., York, will offer free classes to prepare for the high school equivalency test for York County adults age 18 and older. The classes will prepare students for the GED test or the HiSET test to get the High School Equivalency Diploma. York County Literacy Council is the testing site for the HiSET test, which is taken on paper. There is a fee to take the GED and HiSET tests. Registration for the HiSET test may be completed at www.hiset.ets.org. Classes are free, but prospective students must register and attend an orientation. St. James Lutheran Church, 180 W. Market St., Hallam, recently celebrated George Gayman’s 50 years of service to Boy Scout Troop 49. During George’s time as Scoutmaster of Troop 49, 72 boys earned the title of Eagle Scout. He has attended two World Jamborees in England and Holland. George has also attended seven National Jamborees, the most recent one being held at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia. George and his wife, Shirley, became actively involved in the Cub Scouts in 1968. In 1970, George became a committee member for Troop 49, and in 1972 he became Scoutmaster of Troop 49, with Shirley serving as his right hand in all of the troop’s activities and endeavors. Over the years, George has strived to teach hundreds of boys - through his example - the meaning of the Boy Scout oath of showing respect to God and See Scoutmaster pg 3

York Heart Walk Scheduled

York County community members are invited to take part in the 2018 York Heart Walk on Saturday, Sept. 15.

George Gayman was honored for his 50 years of service to Boy Scout Troop 49 at a service held in May at St. James Lutheran Church in Hallam.

The American Heart Association invites workplaces, friends and families from across York County to join the 2018 York Heart Walk. The event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 15, at John Rudy County Park, 400 Mundis Race
