York-East Rotary members volunteer to pick up trash and litter along Edgewood Road between Prospect Street and Kingston Road twice a year: once in the spring and once in the fall. The efforts generally coincide with PennDOT’s Road Cleanup Days. York College of Pennsylvania’s annual York Community Art Scholars Exhibition (YCASE) celebrates the art produced by area high school students. Those who participate in the programs are eligible for cash awards, gift certificates to downtown York arts venues, and one $20,000 DelliCarpini Community Art Scholarship to study an art-related field at York College. The program will begin with an Art Walk, a series of exhibitions in downtown York featuring work from local high schools. Participating high schools exhibit their student artists’ work at art galleries and other shops in the downtown York arts districts. These locations will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Thursday, Oct. 24, to Saturday, Oct. 26. A reception for the Art Walk See Student Artwork pg 2

Leadership Program Kicks Off

Nearly 700 walkers turned out at John Rudy County Park in York on Sept. 15 for the York Heart Walk. The event raised more than $58,000 for the American Heart Association (AHA). News personality Brittany Garzillo
hosted the Heart Walk opening festivities, which included health information, blood pressure checks and CPR demonstrations courtesy of WellSpan Health and UPMC, children’s activities and healthy snacks. See Heart Walk pg 2
Thirty teachers and administrators representing 10 York County school districts kicked off the Leadership for Diverse Schools (LDS) Class of 2020 with a weekend retreat. LDS is a nine-month, experiential leadership development program
during which participants explore personal bias and learn to interact more effectively with diverse populations of students, parents, and colleagues. The program, presented in partnership with the York Jewish Community Center, aims to foster See Leadership Program pg 2
