Fine Arts Festival Set

The Yorkfest Fine Arts Festival will be held on Saturday, Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Festival events will take place in downtown York in and around the Colonial Complex and along the Rail Trail from Philadelphia Street to Princess Street. All events are free and open to the public. Pets are prohibited. Yorkfest will feature 100 select fine artists from across the country, free family-friendly entertainment, hands-on arts activities, food, and more. This year’s featured artist is Fiel Patricio. Her mixed media work “World Spins Madly On” is being used in print advertisements, postcards, billboards, and festival merchandise. The Yorkfest Juried Art Exhibition will be displayed at the Creative York gallery, 10 N. Beaver St. The public is invited to attend a reception for art and literary award winners at the gallery on Friday, Aug. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. The Yorkfest Youth Art and Literary

Exhibits will be displayed at the Agricultural and Industrial Museum, 217 W. Princess St. An awards ceremony will take place on Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. Creative York will present the Creative York Family Courtyard with a variety of interactive community art projects. This area will be located in the Gates & Plough Tavern Courtyard. The Festival Marketplace will offer a wide variety of fine art for sale. ChalkWalk will feature colorful chalk murals being created along Market Street between Pershing and Beaver streets on Aug. 24. All attendees will be welcome to participate in the Community Mural Project, which is new this year. The Silken Literary Tent will feature page poetry, dramatic monologues, spoken word, storytelling, and more. Spin art bicycles will return to Yorkfest. Attendees may create a masterpiece while getting a little exercise by pedaling a stationary bike to activate a spinning platter while a partner squirts paint onto See Yorkfest pg 2

Kirk Reese Project To Begin Concert Series’ 2019-20 Season

The Kirk Reese Project will present a concert at St. John Episcopal Church in York on Sunday, Aug. 25.

The St. John Concert Series at St. John Episcopal Church, 140 N. Beaver St., York, will begin its 2019-20 season with a concert by the Kirk Reese Project on Sunday, Aug. 25, at 4 p.m. Joined by native York vocalist Elizabeth Zito, the Kirk Reese Project will present a mix of jazz, blues, classical and world music. Cub Scout Pack 69 will host a Recruitment Roundup on Sunday, Aug. 25, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Grove Building at Salem Lutheran Church in Jacobus. Pack 69 invites boys in kindergarten through fifth grade to learn about the organization’s activities.
