Club Dedicates Meditation Garden The Plant It Pink Breast Cancer Meditation Garden in John C. Rudy County Park was dedicated on June 26. Along with a pink bench, the newly planted garden features pink perennials, such as cosmos and coneflowers, selected by the Garden Club of York’s (GCY) Plant It Pink Committee, led by Sue Bowman. The plants were chosen to engage all senses. Pink roses and annuals such as petunias
were added to the wish list by Denise DelGrosso Gilliland. She is the founder of Pink Power, a local 501(c)(3) organization that raises money for breast cancerrelated causes. Using the proceeds from its annual Girls Night Out, Pink Power supports four causes: WellSpan York Cancer Center, UPMC Breast Care Center, Penn State Cancer Institute Genetics Program, and Pink Ink Project.
The Breast Cancer Meditation Garden in John C. Rudy County Park features pink flowers and a pink bench, as well as the previously existing hard-surface path in the shape of a turtle with a sundial in the middle.

Invincibelle Spirit II hydrangeas came from Spring Meadow, which supports cancer research from its nationwide sales to wholesalers. Four local nurseries supplied plants as well. At the dedication, DelGrosso Gilliland thanked her Pink Power committee, then listed the top 10 reasons to meditate, beginning with “Meditation brings us peace.” Bowman noted that 26 plants, many of See Meditation Garden pg 2
