Future Leaders Program Holds Graduation Leadership York hosted a graduation ceremony for its Future Leaders of York (FLY) program on May 19. The Future Leaders of York Class of 2019 consisted of 36 high school sophomores and juniors from 21 schools. The 2019 class was the 30th class to graduate through the FLY program. Bike winner Zayden Martin (front, center) displays his bike. He was congratulated by his father, Shane Martin, and several mascots at a York Revolution game. York County Literacy Council (YCLC) recently presented two BMX bikes to the winning students of the Buck A Book Reading Program bike drawing. Students from school districts around York County entered the bike drawing when they participated in the Buck A Book Reading Program.

Leadership York’s Future Leaders of York Class of 2019 recently graduated from the program.

Southivong Wins Essay Contest

The winning students, Olivia King of West Manheim Elementary School and Zayden Martin of New Salem Elementary School, were announced at the Buck A Book Reading Program Recognition Event during two York Revolution games. The top overall school was Ore See YCLC pg 5

Alexis Southivong, a sophomore at Central York High School, recently won the East York Optimist Club’s essay contest based on the theme “When All the World’s Problems Are Solved, Is Optimism Still Necessary?” Southivong received a cash award for the honor. In addition, Taylor Davis and Megan Lutz received cash awards for placing second and third. The East York Optimist Club has been participating in the Optimist Essay Contest for many years and has been active in benefiting the youths in the community since 1956. Other programs and service projects that the club conducts include

the Optimist Oratorical Scholarship Contest, the Optimist Olympics for Youth With Hearing and/or Vision Loss, Youth Appreciation Day, and Respect for Law programs. Optimist International has 93,000 adult and youth members in 3,200 clubs See Essay Contest pg 2
