Tracy Dietrich, the Silver and Wood of the duo, has mastered 19 different flutes and recorders. Cindy Wittenberg, the Ivory of the pair, began playing the piano at age 4 and started formal training by age 8, and she has also learned to play the organ and the bassoon.

Where will funds raised through Give Local York be directed?

Melissa: This year the funds raised will be earmarked to expand and upgrade our elementary and middle school playground area. The play structures will focus on interactive play and keeping children active and healthy during their recess and brain breaks. Studies show that children who get regular physical activity experience improvements not just in their fitness levels, but in brain function. This playground upgrade is an essential piece in CSY providing a high-quality Christian education that inspires hearts, minds, and souls for purposeful living.

Melissa: Our mission is to provide high-quality Christian education that inspires hearts, minds, and souls for purposeful living.

CSY offers an Advanced Learning Curriculum that includes art, Bible, health, languages (sign language and Spanish), math, music, science, and social studies with a focus on servant leadership. The Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools have a complete education experience that begins with a solid foundation while growing cognitively, emotionally, physically, socially, and spirituality. We also embrace and serve the families throughout the course of the school year by offering assistance for those with learning challenges as well as gifted and advanced learning. CSY offer a complete educational experience that begins with a solid foundation.

What are the school’s goals for 2019?

Alison: Our goal is to increase and strengthen our programs offered to our students. This year we have added a STEM program and wish to offer our students more options to challenge them academically. We are also increasing our outreach into the community to help various organizations as they minister to our communities.

Melissa: We have embraced our need for our library to expand to serve both Lower and Upper School by dividing into two sections. Plans are underway for this to begin over the summer months, and in just few short weeks we are holding our first annual clay shoot to raise funds toward our Philbert Scott Memorial Library Fund to be able to perform these renovations.

Music holds a special place in our school from general music in preschool and Lower School to marching band, middle and high school band, and

program during regular operating hours.

The Friends’ Puzzle Swap will take place on Saturday, April 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Attendees may swap one of their puzzles for one of the gently used jigsaw puzzles at the event, or they may purchase a puzzle for a nominal fee. Any remaining puzzles will be sold during the used book sale the next weekend.

The Friends’ semiannual book sale will take place on Friday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, April 13, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hellam Township Public Works building, located across the street from the library. In addition to gently used books, jigsaw puzzles will be available for purchase. Freshly baked cookies and cakes donated by community members will be available. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Kreutz Creek Library.

Babies and Toddlers Story Times with Miss Lisa, for children from birth through 3 years old, will be offered on Mondays through May 6, with sessions at 10 and 10:45 a.m. Registration is required, and interested families may contact the library at 717-252-4080.

Preschool Story Times with Miss Felicia, for children ages 3 to 5, will meet on Mondays and Fridays through May 10. Sessions will take place on Mondays from 1 to 2 p.m. and on Fridays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Wee Build Wednesdays are held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. for children ages 3 to 5. Wee Build STEM materials will be available. April sessions are set for April 10 and 24.

Two programs will be geared to tweens ages 9 to 12. On Tuesday, April 9, from 6:30

Story times will be among the activities at Kreutz Creek Library in April. Programs for people of all ages will be offered. to 7:45 p.m., The Danger Club will be held.

Tweens may join Miss Jennifer for a new adventure every month. The Tween Library Squad will meet on Tuesday, April 23, from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m., and attendees will shape library programming for their age group.

Programs for teenagers ages 13 to 18 will be offered. Every Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m., Teen Time will allow teenagers to gather for hangout time and conversation at the library. All teenagers are welcome to participate in the program, which will be held on April 4, 11, 18 and 25. Teen After Hours will take place on Friday, April 26, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Teenagers may hang out, chat, and play games after the library closes.

The Friends of Kreutz Creek Library Branch Support Group will meet on April 24 at 5:30 p.m. The group welcomes fresh ideas and suggestions for activities to be held throughout the year.

The Knitters and Crocheters group meets on the first and third Tuesdays of

each month. People of all skill levels are welcome, and group members will help others learn to knit or crochet. Attendees should bring needles and yarn. Knitters and crocheters may bring their current projects to work on and projects for showand-tell. The group will meet from 6 to 7:45 p.m. on April 2 and 16.

The tech guru will not visit the library in April. The tech support program is undergoing changes, and more information and scheduling will be posted later in the spring.

The Green Thumb Garden Club will host a program on April 11 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Master Gardener Iona Bradley will present “Ins and Outs of Composting and Mulch,” focusing on the basics of these processes and how they benefit garden plants and the community. The Garden Club offers a program on the second Thursday of each month.

The Lego Builders Club for children age 6 and up will be held on April 18 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Church Plans Rally Day Concert The Messiah’s Messengers will present a concert at Windsor Church of God, 1125 Manor Road, Windsor, on Sunday, April 7, at 9 a.m. as part of the church’s Spring Rally Day. September House Posts Schedule

Yes! The 2018 version of Give Local York was a new and unique opportunity to come together in community with the many other nonprofits who participated. We were able to celebrate our collective determination to improve the quality of life in York County and to expand our reach to many who perhaps did not know what we do and who we are.

What are the organization’s goals for 2019?

Our fundraising goal overall is $35,000, but our main objective this year is to use the Give Local York platform to share and inform our audiences about the everyday work that we do to help our struggling neighbors in need in York County. In addition, LifePath will launch the Champions program, a peer-to-peer fundraising effort where individuals who believe in our work can help us expand our reach by sharing their passion for LifePath with their friends and family.

Funds raised through Give Local York this year will go to the day-today work of running the mission.

At LifePath, we receive $0 in government funding, so we must raise 100 percent of our operating budget through private donations.

Out of gratitude for the grace extended to us by Christ, our mission is to love, honor, and serve our struggling neighbors at their point of need and holistically equip them to flourish in the community.

LifePath Christian Ministries operates a Men’s Shelter and a Women and Children’s Shelter; a food kitchen offering meals three times a day, 365 days a year; thrift stores that help fund the ministry; and a Learning Center, where guests can begin on a path of transformation.

Association Plans Annual Event The Manufacturers’ Association of southcentral Pennsylvania has announced that area television traffic anchor and reporter Corinne Lillis will be the master of ceremonies of the association’s upcoming 113th annual event on Thursday, April 25, at The Pullo Center, 1031 Edgecomb Ave., York.

Lillis, who joined a local television station in the spring of 2016, has a broadcasting degree from Millersville University. Her first job out of college was as the host of a morning talk show at a radio station just outside Philadelphia.

The evening’s guest and keynote speaker will be noted oceanographer and explorer Robert Ballard, who discovered the remains of the Titanic and many other notable shipwrecks, including John F. Kennedy’s PT-109. Much of Ballard’s talk will center on the pioneering of tele-operated robots that are beginning to impact the manufacturing industry.

The chorus has been performing for more than 65 continuous years.

The association will also recognize several regional manufacturers for their 2018 contributions either to their business organization or their local community. Categories will include Manufacturer of the Year, Community Investor, and Manufacturing Innovator. Mission: Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at The Pennsylvania State University is committed to enhancing the quality of life for mature adults (age 50 and over) who love to learn.

For 10 years, OLLI at Penn State York has offered a wide variety of courses, tours, events, and activities for people who want to learn, for the love of learning. We are one of 122 OLLIs through the United States, and a core principle of all OLLIs is “no homework, no assignments, no stress!” Courses are led by volunteer instructors who have passion and expertise in history, literature, the performing arts, religion, business, technology, government, law, health, gardening, or the sciences. Additionally, OLLI reaches out to historical sites, museums, artists, faith communities, Penn State York faculty, and others to provide programs and opportunities to learn about what makes our region so special. Temple Beth Israel Slates Concert Temple Beth Israel (TBI) cantorial intern David Fair will present a concert titled “Believe: Songs of Love and Light” on Saturday, April 13, at 8 p.m. at TBI, 2090 Hollywood Drive, York, in the social hall. Fair will be accompanied by Victor Fields, TBI’s organist and pianist.

A native of Baltimore, Fair is in his final year as a student in the cantorial program at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion’s Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music in New York City. He has been the cantorial intern at TBI for the past two years.

Fair received his Bachelor of Arts in theater from the University of Maryland. He received his Professional Studies Diploma in 2012 and his Artist Diploma in 2014 in opera/voice performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music. He has been a cantor in several temples and in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Ivan A. Quinones has been named the new West York Area High School football head coach.

His appointment was approved at the Feb. 12 board of school directors’ meeting.

Quinones brings an extensive coaching and athletic management background dating back to 1998.

He has held positions with the Severn Athletic Club in Maryland, the Dallastown Youth Athletics football programs, and the York County Youth Football Association.

Most recently, he served as assistant head football coach and defensive coordinator for Dallastown Area High School.

Vietnam War Veterans Day Planned National Vietnam War Veterans Day will be recognized on Friday, March 29, across York County through programs serving as a retroactive welcoming home for veterans who served in the Vietnam War. National Vietnam War Veterans Day is established in federal statutes due to local veteran Harold E. Redding’s work.

The Valley Street Bridge in Glen Rock will be dedicated on March 29 and renamed the WO1 Martin E. Bixler Memorial Bridge. The ceremony will start at noon, with a reception to follow at the American Legion Post 403, 4035 Manchester St., Glen Rock. Bixler, of Glen Rock, was an army helicopter pilot killed in action in the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action, the

third-highest valor distinction in the U.S. Armed Forces. Arrangements for this dedication are being coordinated by state Rep. Kate Klunk and her staff. For more details, readers may call Klunk’s district office at 717-630-8942.

A second ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. on March 29 inside the Horticulture Hall at the York Expo Center, 334 Carlisle Ave., York. Dr. Walter W. Surviving Spouse Social Planned Regular meetings of Surviving Spouse Socials are held the first Tuesday of every month except August and December at Faith United Church of Christ, 509 Pacific Ave., York. The next meeting will take place on April 2 at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be available after the meeting.

The purpose of this group is to help those who have been widowed for some time to move on with their lives. All widowed men and women are welcome to attend.

The group offers various social activities, such as a covered dish picnic set for Wednesday, April 3, at Rocky Ridge Park. It will be held in an enclosed pavilion, and a fire will be built in the fireplace. The club will provide either hot dogs or hamburgers.

Additionally, group members will meet at Old Country Buffet on Route 30 on Mondays, April 15, May 20, and June 17, at noon to eat lunch and play cards and other games.

The group also goes out to eat every Thursday at 6 p.m. at different restaurants in York. Individuals can call 717-318-6366 or 717-434-5470 for the name of the restaurant and location or any additional information about the group.

Sailing Skills Course Slated Susquehanna Yacht Club, 1730 Long Level Road, Wrightsville, and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will teach the first Sailing Skills and Seamanship Class since this area was designated as a National Heritage Area. The class is open to the public and will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, April 3 to May 22.

The class is a recognized Coast Guard Auxiliary class, and participants who successfully complete the final test are eligible to receive the Pennsylvania Boating Safety Education Certificate, which is valid for use of all watercraft, including jet skis and other personal watercraft. Susquehanna Yacht Club members will provide sailboat rides before several of the classes, so participants can get the feel of the procedures presented in class.

Preregistration is required. There is a course fee, which includes all materials. York Catholic High School senior Katy Rader (front, center) has committed to play basketball at Christopher Newport University in Virginia. Rader is a three-sport athlete in basketball, cross-country, and lacrosse. She was selected as the co-captain of the basketball team in her sophomore, junior, and senior years. She was a YAIAA All-Star Honorable Mention in 2017 and 2018 and was named to the Central York Holiday Tournament All-Star Team in 2017 and 2018. Off the court, Rader is an honor roll student and a member of the National Honor Society.
