EMMR Plans 44th Annual Convention The Eastern Museum of Motor Racing (EMMR) will hold its 44th annual EMMR Convention from Friday to Sunday, Aug. 24 to 26, at Latimore Valley Fairgrounds, 100 Baltimore Road, York Springs. EMMR will honor the late Gary Wolford this year. He was known for his racing career at many tracks, especially Silver Springs Speedway. Wolford was a friend and supporter of EMMR. On Aug. 24, the museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The restored race cars will do some exhibition racing at Williams Grove Speedway. In the afternoon on Saturday, Aug. 25, and Aug. 26, visitors may watch the restored cars participate in exhibition racing at the historic Latimore Valley Speedway. The Inliners International will also have a display. In the morning on Aug. 26, EMMR will hold its membership meeting and the introduction of the grand marshals, Ruth and Clarence Snavely.

Aug. 25 will be the annual Cruise-In Night at the museum from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will include food, music, prize drawings, awards, and a cash award for Best of Show in three catagories. Goodie bags and plaques will be given to the first 100 participants. There is a registration fee, with a discount for those who preregister. There will be a grand door prize drawing for the preregistered cars. The museum will be open with free admission. EMMR not only honors significant people and vehicles of racing’s past but also the historic speedways, fairgrounds, drag car organizations, vintage motorcycles, and the Gettysburg AACA Region.

One Book, One Community Voting Opens One Book, One Community (OBOC) organizers have announced that members of the public may vote for next year’s One Book, One Community book selection from Wednesday, Aug. 1, to Friday, Aug. 31. From a ballot of five books chosen by the book selection committee, participants may vote for the book they would be most interested in reading and discussing in 2019. The selections are “Ordinary Grace” by William Kent Krueger, “Ginny Moon” by Benjamin Ludwig, “A Hope More Powerful Than the Sea” by Melissa Fleming, “Killers of the Flower Moon” by David Grann, and “The Hate U Give” by Angie Thomas. It is not necessary to read or have read the books to place a vote. The public vote initiative is a way to promote community involvement in the selection of the title. The 2019 OBOC regional campaign represents collaboration among a total of 40 libraries in Cumberland, Dauphin, Perry and York counties. To vote, members of the public may visit www.oboc.org or fill out paper ballots by visiting a participating library. See OBOC pg 3
