The Dover and York YMCA branches are now accepting registrations for several youth and teen sports and arts programs, including an outdoor soccer league for youths ages 4 to 11, a dodgeball league for youths ages 8 to 15, girls’ intramural volleyball for youths ages 8 to 15, a variety of dance classes for youths ages 3 to 13, art classes for youths ages 6 to 10, a basketball league and instruction for youths ages 4 to 11, and Nerf tag for youths ages 6 to 11. Most programs will begin in September. The first program will begin on Saturday, Sept. 22. Harmony Grove Community Church, 6390 Harmony Grove Road, Dover, will present a GriefShare program. The program will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 12, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. GriefShare is designed for individuals who have experienced loss of a loved one. Annual Walk Will Support Heart Association The American Heart Association invites workplaces, friends and families from across York County to join the 2018 York Heart Walk. The event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 15, at John Rudy County Park, 400 Mundis Race Road, York. Registration and festivities will begin at 9 a.m., and the walk will step off at 10:30 a.m. Activities at this year’s Heart Walk will include free CPR demonstrations and health screenings, healthy snacks, activities for children, and a pet look-alike contest. The event will culminate with a 1- to 3-mile walk around John Rudy County Park. Organizers have set a goal to raise $130,000 from the Heart Walk to support the American Heart Association. Walkers who raise a minimum amount will receive a Heart Walk T-shirt and the opportunity to earn additional prizes. The 2018 York Heart Walk is co-chaired by Brent Doores, administrative director of the Heart and Vascular Service Line at WellSpan Health, and Dr. Paul Tolerico, cardiologist at WellSpan Health. The Heart Walk is part of the American Heart Association’s Healthy for Good movement to encourage sustainable healthy lifestyle changes. The American Heart Association is a voluntary health organization dedicated to building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. The Dover Area Community Library Friends group will hold its annual used book sale from Tuesday, Sept. 11, through Friday, Sept. 14, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 15 and 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Barn at Brookside Park, 4054 Fox Run Road, Dover. Attendees may browse at least 10,000 books, including adult fiction and romance novels, Christian fiction, nonfiction, young adult and junior fiction, children’s board books, children’s hardcover and softcover books, CDs, and DVDs. Admission is free. Friends of the Library members may bring their 2018 membership cards to receive a special offer. Donations of books for this year’s sale will not be accepted at the library after Aug. 26 or at the sale site in September. The book sale is the Friends’ major fundraiser for the upkeep of the Dover Area Community Library, and the Friends must secure $43,000 due to cuts in the county’s contribution.
