The restored race cars will do some exhibition racing at Williams Grove Speedway.

In the afternoon on Saturday, Aug. 25, and Aug. 26, visitors may watch the restored cars participate in exhibition racing at the historic Latimore Valley Speedway. The Inliners International will also have a display.

In the morning on Aug. 26, EMMR will hold its membership meeting and the introduction of the grand marshals, Ruth and Clarence Snavely.

Barbershop Group Slates Concert The White Rose Chorus, a men’s barbershop ensemble, will perform “Live From the Valencia” on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m. in the Studio Theater at DreamWrights Center for Community Arts, 100 Carlisle Ave., York. Performing in the style of a classic live radio show, the White Rose Chorus will present repertoire from its performance at the recent Central Division Barbershop Competition, where it won first place in its district.

Since its founding in 1945, the White Rose Chorus has performed in and around York County. The group is a member of the Barbershop Harmony

Society (BHS), has performed at music festivals, and recently sang the national anthem at a York Revolution baseball game. The group exists to bring people together through harmony and fellowship and to preserve barbershop music, an American art form.

EMMR will honor the late Gary Wolford this year. He was known for his racing career at many tracks, especially Silver Springs Speedway. Wolford was a friend and supporter of EMMR. On Aug. 24, the museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Vehicles, people and other aspects of American motor racing history will be celebrated at the EMMR Convention from Friday to Sunday, Aug. 24 to 26.

Lip Sync Competition Posted The second annual Sing for a Cure Lip Sync Competition will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 6 p.m. at York College, 441 Country Club Road, York, in the Waldner Performing Arts Center.

Re-Creation Sets Live Recording Of Program Re-Creation will sing at Fourth United Methodist Church (UMC), 1067 E. Agency Marks 40th Year This year, SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care and Hospice celebrates 40 years of providing health care and related services in the comfort of home. The agency started in 1978 when the state of Pennsylvania mandated that state health nurses could no longer do community home nursing visits. SpiriTrust Lutheran (then known as Lutheran Social Services) already had a homemaker program in Franklin County and rose to the challenge of filling the gap by providing home health care in the community.

In 40 years, the agency has

grown from fewer than 10 employees to more than 400 and from serving one county in Pennsylvania to now serving 18 counties in Pennsylvania and three counties in Maryland. In 1978, the agency started by providing home nursing services. Over the years, the agency has added physical, occupational, and speech therapies and social work services to its home health program. It has also added other programs such as hospice, palliative care, home health telemonitoring, and non-medical home care.

The York County Astronomical Society (YCAS) will offer a public event at the observatory at John C. Rudy County Park, 400 Mundis Race Road, York, on Saturday, Aug. 25. A Solar and Radio Astronomy program will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and a Telescope Clinic will occur from 1 to 2 p.m.

YCAS member Kerry Smith will present the radio astronomy portion of the event and also give attendees a peek into the future of the YCAS’ radio astronomy endeavors. Radio astronomy is the study of unseen radiated energy in the electromagnetic spectrum below visible light. By using radio astronomy, people are able to study astronomical phenomena that are otherwise invisible.

Attendees will also be able to view the sun through YCAS’ solar telescope, as well as view

it remotely on a television screen that will be hooked up to a telescope. YCAS member Bill Price will present this portion of the event.

At noon, meteorologist Drew Anderson will share how the sun causes weather both on Earth and in space, as well as how space weather may affect humans’ everyday lives. Anderson will also speak about the new technology NASA is using to monitor space weather, what causes the Northern Lights and why they may sometimes be seen in Pennsylvania, and how the inside of the sun works.

During the Telescope Clinic, YCAS members will share information and advice regarding how to buy an optical astronomical telescope. The presentation will begin promptly at 1 p.m.

York Aglow Set To Meet York Aglow will meet on Saturday, Aug. 25, at 9 a.m. at First Assembly of God Church, 2270 Susquehanna Trail North, York. As its annual outreach, York Aglow will collect items for New Life For Girls.
