Association Slates York Heart Walk The American Heart Association invites workplaces, friends and families from across York County to join the 2018 York Heart Walk. The event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 15, at John Rudy County Park, 400 Mundis Race Road, York. Registration and festivities will begin at 9 a.m., and the walk will step off at 10:30 a.m. Activities at this year’s Heart Walk will include free CPR demonstrations and health screenings, healthy snacks, activities for children, and a pet look-alike contest. The event will culminate with a 1- to 3-mile walk around John Rudy County Park. Organizers have set a goal to raise $130,000 from the Heart Walk to support the American Heart Association. Walkers who raise a minimum amount will receive a Heart Walk T-shirt and the opportunity to earn additional prizes. The 2018 York Heart Walk is co-chaired by Brent Doores, administrative director of the Heart and Vascular Service Line at WellSpan Health, and Dr. Paul Tolerico, cardiologist at WellSpan Health. The Heart Walk is part of the American Heart Association’s Healthy for Good movement to encourage sustainable healthy lifestyle changes. The American Heart Association is a voluntary health organization dedicated to building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. The Women’s Friendship Club of York County is an organization of more than 170 women who meet for social activities and also contribute to several local organizations, such as Pleasant Acres Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, York County Food Bank, and Jessica and Friends. The group also makes a donation of $4,000 each year to a local charity. Last year’s donation went to the local Pappus House.

Teacher Phillip Autrey (far right) offered congratulations. York Catholic High School students recently received recognition for their scores on the national Advanced Placement (AP) exams. Advanced Placement (AP) courses offer high school students college-level rigor ending in May with a four-hour, national exam. Exams are graded on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 as the highest grade possible. Many colleges and universities accept a score of 3 or higher for college credit.
York Catholic offers Advanced Placement courses in English, Calculus, Chemistry, Biology, and U.S. History. This past spring, 32 York Catholic students took a total of 42 AP exams, with a 95 percent pass rate of a 3 or higher. On those 42 tests, 16 students scored a 5, 15 students scored a 4, and nine students scored a 3.
