MOVIE NIGHT
Hayshire United Church of Christ, 100 Haybrook Drive, York, will host an outdoor family movie night at 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 17. A recently released, family-friendly movie will be shown. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. The community event is open to all ages. In the event of rain, the movie will be shown indoors. FAMILY FUN DAY
5 Main St., Yorkana, will host a Community Family Fun Day on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 3 to 8 p.m., rain or shine. The event will include games, a super slide, a dunk tank, a petting zoo, hayrides, and a fire truck display. Most of the activities are free. Food and some games will be available for a nominal fee. Entertainment by Phredd will begin at 6 p.m. under the tent. Food offerings will include chicken corn soup, corn on the cob, pork barbecue, hamburgers, hot dogs, baked goods, french fries, walking tacos, fresh fruit, ice cream, snow cones, soft drinks, and cotton candy. Vietnam veteran Herold Redding will talk about his experiences during the Wednesday, Aug. 22, meeting of ALLVETS. The oral history will be recorded at the Historical Society Museum, Library and Archives, 250 E. Market St., York, at 7 p.m. ALLVETS is a local nonprofit with the goal of preserving the stories of local veterans for the future. The recordings, audio or audio/video, are open to the public. Each recording will be approximately one hour, and veterans may preregister at no cost. For more information, readers may contact allvets1york@gmail.com.
