WELCOME
I am delighted to be back in Nottingham for the finale of this year’s Talent Academy Programme. Over the course of the next four days more than 960 players across 48 teams will be competing head-tohead at the Nottingham Hockey Centre supported by almost 150 coaches and team managers. We are pleased to welcome teams from Wales too and hope you enjoy the tournament.
Success in tournament hockey is multifaceted and diligent preparation, analysis and recovery are all critical components. We’ve taken on board feedback from last year’s Festival and made a few changes. We hope these will enhance the players’ experience while retaining these critical components. We’ve renamed it to the Talent Academy Cup rather than a Festival and created a format where every game matters and with something tangible to play for.
The stage is set for a wonderful four days of competition, but the stage didn’t build itself. My thanks go to the Nottingham Hockey Centre, University of Nottingham and staff across England Hockey who have worked closely together to bring the event to Nottingham. As always, we are very grateful for the support and time of our amazing Hockey Makers without whom events like this couldn’t happen.
The Talent Academy Cup signals the end of the second year of the Talent Academy Programme and another monumental
effort by so many people in each of the 23 Talent Academies. We are all still learning, and the programmes will continue to evolve year on year, however we’ve made a step-change to embed talent development provision in our clubs. It is exciting to see the progress of both the environments and the players. Whether a coach, welfare officer, management committee member, parent of a player my thanks for your support and hard work.
Our aspiration is to make hockey more visible, relevant, and accessible and we know that the cost of Talent Academies is challenging for some. All Talent Academies have provision to provide discounted or free of charge places and together with the England Hockey Areas, we have support in place to help remove financial barriers. I encourage you to share this far and wide so that together, we can ensure our most highly talented hockey players can realise their potential.
Finally, whatever your role at the Talent Academy Cup, have a great time, enjoy and celebrate what will be a truly spectacular display of junior hockey. Please also share you experience of the Talent Academy Cup, and your love of hockey, and make it more visible to more young people.

THE FORMAT
Talent Academies are first grouped according to their geographical location. Within these groups, the academies are then divided into pools. This arrangement ensures that each academy competes against teams from different regions of the country.
On Days 1, 2 and 3, the academies will play one pool match each and on Day 4, they will play a cross-over match depending on their final position in the pool.
