Why is “Canadian experience” going to be replaced by CPD or PEAK? Many engineers who already have years of Canadian experience do not need to go through this evaluation process.

Why can’t councilors or president communicate directly with members to find out what they really want or need? Communication Problem

TRUTH—TRUST— TRANSPARENCY

Vajahat (Vaj) Banday

PEng , FEC, MSEE, MSCE, PE (Michigan) for VICE PRESIDENT

TO PRESERVE TRUE SELF-GOVERNANCE, PEO MUST CHANGE RESPECT THE MEMBERS!

IN MY TERMS ON COUNCIL, I FOUGHT FOR:

 DEMOCRATIC CONTROL OF OUR PROFESSION: PEO is becoming too large, too bureaucratic, and too isolated from its volunteers and members.

 IMPROVED RELATIONSHIPS WITH VOLUNTEERS / STAKEHOLDERS: Members, industry, government, and the public.

 MEMBERS' VOICE ON CPD AND "PEAK", AS WE WERE PROMISED IN PAST: The program has turned out to be too costly, too intrusive, and not particularly useful.

YOU AND I MUST CONTINUE TO WORK FOR:

 OPENNESS AND TRANSPARENCY AT COUNCIL: Chapters, volunteers, members must be kept "in-the-loop", not excluded.

 EMBRACING EMERGING DISCIPLINES: This profession has a bright future only if it understands new disciplines need regulation.

 SUPPORT ENTREPRENEURS AND NEW GRADUATES: Our economy is changing. PEO must adapt and innovate.

 MEANINGFUL ENGAGEMENT WITH GOVERNMENT: Government does not adequately understand the critical importance of engineering to a modern economy and societal prosperity.

 BENEFICIAL RELATIONSHIPS WITH OSPE AND ENGINEERING ORGANIZATIONS: We are all in this together!

Guy Boone, P. Eng, FEC

Vice-President Candidate

former Eastern Region Councillor (2 terms; 2016 to 2020)

former Ottawa Chapter Chair (2015) & Algonquin Vice-Chair (2005)

To ELEVATE the ENGINEERING PROFESSION, PEO MUST become more NIMBLE & EMBRACE the “DELEGATED AUTHORITY” it has beengiven. TRANSFORM with PROGRESS, or become IRRELEVANT!

My Values & Priorities:

✓ M MEMBER RESPECT: I support greater communications & collaboration with practicing members on issues & directives impacting the engineering profession.

✓ OUTREACH: I believe the engineer community must reach out & work with other learned societies, companies & governments, to understand, regulate & proactively enforce!

✓ LEADERSHIP: When making decisions, one must consider multiple scenarios and alternatives before consulting with members and making decision.

✓ PROTECT the PUBLIC INTEREST: A sacred responsibility that must remain forefront!

Collaborating with License/CoA A Holders, & Councillors to advocate:

✓ A ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES & E EMERGING PRACTICES: I support the creation of a working group or committee to review how advanced technologies (such as A AI & C Cyber) can be recognized and licenced

✓ S SUPPORT new Canadian Engineering Graduates & Foreign Educated Professionals to obtain their required P P Eng experience (EEIT is key!).

✓ C Continuous Professional Development (CCPD/PEAK program): I support P Peak Review to enhance it’s effectiveness & acceptance, aligned with others & removing CPD requirements for non-practicing engineers.

✓ C CHAPTER INCLUSION – Contrary to the C Cayton Repor t, I support C Chapter Reform, making C Chapters even more effective with more active Volunteers as an important component of P PEO Engagement Strategy

✓ A ACTIVE GOVERNMENT ENGAGEMENT: I support active discussion with elected officials at all levels (FFederal, Provincial & Municipal) to both be informed and to inform them on key engineering matters. EMPLOYMENT:

• Public Accounting: 1976-78

• Ontario Hydro/Ontario Power Generation: 1978 2011

EDUCATION:

• P.Eng: 1976

• Master of Business Administration, University of Toronto: 1979

• Registered Industrial Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, Chartered Professional Accountant

THE ISSUES:

• Council must be open, evolving, and transparent. Chapters, volunteers, and members must be consulted and in-the-loop. We cannot govern thinking they don't matter. We are the "self"in self-governance

• We have to manage our members' money wisely. With 89,000 members, we have tremendous economy -of-scale, and can provide licensees with reasonable fees. I am eager to contribute my management and financial skills and experience to Council and to PEO

• It's time to bring all engineers, including those in emerging disciplines into our tent. Licensure must be portrayed as adding value and employability, not considered as a burden. E Excess bureaucracy and licensing hurdles such as "PEAK" make licensure a burden!

• Goverment and employers must be made aware how important engineering is to a robust economy and prosperity in general.

• It's time to build relationships with OSPE, engineering organizations, and industry. We are all in this together!

Chantal Chiddle, P.Eng., FEC for Eastern Regional Councillor

I have over 15 years of volunteer service with PEO, over 12 years at the Chapter level and 3 years on PEO Council. While on Council I was an active participant; attending all meetings, including regulatory committee meetings and voted on all motions brought forward. I asked generative questions to ensure enough information was provided to carry out my duties.

With over 20 years of Engineering experience in the consulting field, Municipal utility companies and currently, in the construction industry, I bring a unique perspective to PEO. I have gained valuable insight into Engineering through several lenses –client/owner, designer/engineering firm and constructor.

I believe strongly in supporting PEO’s mandate to protect the public through effective regulation. This requires continued focus on regulatory work, such as improving licensing processes. I am proud of the work of Council, including the recent changes to licensing to meet FARPACTA and to be more inclusive. As Eastern Regional Councillor, I will continue to work with Council to ensure Council decisions are based on facts, not conjecture, nor on emotions.

Kris Popiolek, P.Eng., FEC

for Western Regional Councillor

ABOUT ME:

It's time Western Region had a fresh voice at PEO Council. I am that voice:

✓ TRUST, TRANSPARENCY, AND ACCOUNTABILITY: We owe it to our 89,000 members, our employers, and the public. PEO must be more open and transparent than it has been.

✓ PROPER SUPPORT FOR CHAPTERS: They have important roles in supporting self-regulation. They are the eyes, ears, and voice of PEO around this province.

✓ ADDRESS PEO'S DECLINING RELEVANCE : Government, industry, and the public must understand how vital this profession is to prosperity in our society. Oureconomyischanging, and PEOmustadapt. We must demonstrate the VALUE of the PEng licence and bring emerging engineering disciplines into the regulatory fold.

✓ FAIRNESS AND INCLUSIVITY IN KEY DECISIONS: PEO's 89,000 members are the prime stakeholders in this (self-regulated) profession. They have invested their lives in their careers and their profession. We need to listen to them

• Active in London Chapter for over 15 years, as secretary, vice-chair, and chair; Licence Assistance Program, certificate presentation, golf-tournament organizing committee

• 2023 Chapter Leaders Conference organizing committee

• Community service: ReForest London; Thames Valley Toastmasters (president, treasurer, secretary)

• Board experience: Director at my condominium board

MY PRIORITIES:

• Making Council more open and transparent. Better bidirectional communication is needed

• Demonstrating the VALUE of the P.Eng. licence, promoting and facilitating licensure. Too many graduates are forgoing licensure

• Respecting the role and voice of our members, particularly on major initiatives like governance
