St Lucia launches public consultation for billion dollar Pearl of the Caribbean resort

The government of Saint Lucia has launched a public consultation on its plans to green light a sport and leisure resort dubbed the Pearl of the Caribbean . The proposed project on the south of the island comprises a marina, a racecourse, a shopping mall, a casino, a Free Trade Zone, entertainment and leisure facilities, and a series of holiday villas and residential apartments. Government officials have joined with the Invest Saint Lucia (ISL) group to seek public feedback on the US$2.6bn (€2.4bn, £2.08bn) project, beginning with phase one ‒ a racecourse complex covering 200 acres in the town of Vieux Fort. The 9,000-capacity George Odlum football stadium ‒ described by the government as in a deplorable state following years of neglect ‒ may also be renovated or rebuilt as part of the phase. A government-produced fact sheet has been published to address concerns from local people that land is being sold to the investor at an unreasonably low price and that the project will limit public access to the island s beaches. Hong Kong development firm Desert Star Holdings Limited (DSH) has reached a Framework Agreement with the government to explore the feasibility of the project. Phase One has already been passed by local planners, pending an environmental impact assessment. As part of its partnership deal, DSH can lease the earmarked land at US$1 (€0.93, £0.80) per acre, or buy it for between US$60,000 (€55,800, £48,000) and US$90,000 (€83,700, £72,000) at various points in the phasing schedule. According to the fact sheet, Saint Lucia has the option to purchase our lands back at the same price if the developer does not raise the required development capital.

British Ski & Snowboard chief: Dave Ryding s achievement can thrust skiing into the spotlight

The chief executive of British Ski & Snowboard has hailed Dave Ryding s historic second place finish at the World Cup Slalom 2017, and claimed that the media spotlight generated by the achievement can aid the progress of the sport.

partnership British Ski & Snowboard has with main sponsor Delancey. There was also a facility in place for members of the public to donate to the organisation if they booked ski holidays or purchased ski equipment from commercial partners.

Ryding achieved Great Britain s best result for more than 35 years, matching Konrad Bartelski s second place finish in 1981, and Dave Edwards said the positive publicity could lead to more funding, and increase the chances of winning at major events as a consequence.

But Edwards added that he hoped UK Sport would take notice after a number of good performances from British skiers. As well as Ryding s success, snowboarder Katie Ormerod became the first Briton to win the World Cup big air in Moscow in January, while Andrew Musgrave won the cross-country Norwegian Championships in 2014.

He told Sports Management that while the governing body was hoping to convince UK Sport that it was worth more investment, funding could come from elsewhere as a result of heightened awareness. Edwards said there was a strategy in place to find more commercial revenue to complement the

UK Sport has pledged £4.9m (US$6.1m, €5.7m) to the governing body for the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic cycle, up on the £1.5m (US$1.9m, €1.7m) it received ahead of Sochi 2014, although Ryding is not an athlete to benefit

from public funding. British Ski & Snowboard has also recently hired Dan Hunt, formerly of British Cycling, as performance director. Dan was part of the team that transformed British Cycling and then went on to nurture talent in the Premier League (football), said Edwards. He joined us because he recognised that we have an opportunity to to transform what s been done on the winter sport landscape and it s an exciting time to be involved.

Work on £30m Northern Ireland leisure centre to get under way

Building work on a £30million leisure centre in County Down, Northern Ireland, will begin early next month (February 2017).

SANAA s Kazuyo Sejima designs mirrored museum dedicated to legendary Japanese printmaker The life and art of the famous Japanese painter and printmaker Katsushika Hokusai is celebrated in a new Tokyo museum, design by SANAA s Pritzker Prizewinning architect Kazuyo Sejima. The Sumida Hokusai Museum, located in the ward of the same name, is the sculptural home for over 18,000 works created by Hokusai and his apprentices over 200 years ago, including the artist s most famous work ‒ The Great Wave Off Kanagawa . Sejima was tasked with creating both a landmark to attract tourists and a community-centred building that finally gives the citizens of Sumida an opportunity to learn about Hokusai and appreciate his art in one purpose-built place. To achieve this she has designed a striking five-storey angular building partly divided by gentle slits, one of which creates a public pathway through the museum. Aluminium panels lining the exterior have a mirrored quality that reflects the changing scenes of the surrounding downtown area, capturing local life in the manner of one of Hokusai s woodblock ukiyo-e folk tale prints. The reflections also allow the museum blend in with the local park. This integration, and a design that creates multiple entrances to avoid the sense of the building having a front and a back, is intended to encourage passers-by into the building. The splits in the facade, which include sloping glass windows, allow people on the outside of the museum to look in, while offering those inside views of the Tokyo skyline.

The complex will offer a range of sports, recreation and family leisure facilities, including a six-lane gala pool, 20-metre teaching pool (both with moveable floors), water splash play and paddling pool, spa area, six-court sports hall, fitness suite, dance, cycle, spin studios, indoor soft play and café area. It will also have an outdoor covered sports pitch, outdoor adventure play area, skate park provision and mountain bike area. The centre in Newtownards will replace the town s existing leisure centre and is due to open at the end of 2018. Stephen Reid, Ards and North Down Borough Council chief executive, said: This is an exciting and much anticipated development for the borough. The new leisure centre represents a very significant investment in high-quality sport and leisure facilities for people of all ages and will contribute much to our overall objective of promoting the health and wellbeing of residents.

Lincs Inspire to launch scheme to get over 55s active

Lincs Inspire is introducing a wellness scheme targeting over 55s or anyone with an ongoing health condition to help them improve both physical and mental wellbeing. The registered charity, which runs leisure, sporting, cultural and learning services in and around north east Lincolnshire, will be launching Active Forever at Grimsby Leisure Centre next week (25 January). The scheme will offer individually designed support for users, with activities including Tai Chi, walking netball and chair-based exercises. Sue Wells, Lincs Inspire chief executive officer, said: We re very excited to be launching our new wellness scheme, Active Forever. We want 2017 to be a year for getting active, not just thinking about it. We are proud to be working with our local health colleagues who specialise in a wide range of conditions, their knowledge and advice has helped to develop this programme and we are very grateful too for the training they have delivered to our staff which is so important for both user and staff confidence. The launch of the scheme will coincide with the unveiling of the refurbished Toning Suite at the leisure centre.

UKACTIVE ANNOUNCED AS LEAD SUPPORTER FOR ELEVATE 2017

Elevate, the national cross-sector event focused on tackling physical inactivity, has today announced that ukactive will be a Lead Supporter for the 2017 event which takes place at ExCel in London on May 10-11. The prestigious event unites the physical activity sector, academia, healthcare, government and sports performance to focus on the increasingly important and complex societal challenge of tackling physical inactivity. Other lead supporters in 2017 include Public Health England, CIMSPA, London Sport and The Institute of Sport, Exercise & Health (ISEH). Max Quittenton, Founder and Director of Elevate, says: We hugely value the support of ukactive. Our goal is to create an event which places direct focus on the issue of inactivity - sharing best practice, evidence and innovation ‒ something that is completely aligned to ukactive s ambition to get more people, more active, more often. Over the course of the two-day event the 4,000 attendees will have access to the free programme which includes over 150 expert speakers from physical activity, health and performance. Organisations represented include: Public Health England, Team GB, EIS, Age UK, Premier League, Sheffield Hallam University, Nuffield Health, British Triathlon, Sport England, Royal College of GPs, Fitbit, Green Gym, Les Mills, Intelligent Health and Parkrun. ukactive will be the Official Supporter of a seminar stream that will host a series of discussions exploring Inclusivity ‒ Creating an Active Nation . In just one generation, physical activity has declined by 20 per cent and is predicted to decline a further 15 per cent by 2030. Social and economic trends over decades have designed physical activity out of daily life. This part of the programme will look at how the physical activity industry and its wider stake holders can reach and influence the inactive, exploring how to create opportunities for people to be active in ways that fit with their everyday lives and interests. Steven Ward, Executive Director of ukactive, adds: We are looking forward to supporting Elevate in its second year, educating and inspiring attendees, and galvanising our sector to tackle physical inactivity. With inactivity costing the NHS £20 Billion and causing approximately 37,000 deaths every year, it is now an incredibly important time for our sector to unite with the public health agenda and address such an issue. In addition to the extensive education programme, Elevate will also accommodate over 6,000 square metres of exhibition space where organisations including Matrix, Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine, Concept2, Speedflex, Loughborough University, JP Lennard, Precor, Cranlea Human Performance, RLSS and TRX will be showcasing all the latest innovations aimed at getting more people physically active. To maximise the event further in 2017, Elevate will also support a Fringe. This will be an unofficial programme of physical activity related events and activities that take place across London during the two-day event. Open to all, these activities are likely to include AGM s, private product launches, presentations, breakfast meetings, networking, awards dinners, drinks, and other physical activity related events. Once qualified as an Elevate Fringe event, details will be published and promoted to all attendees. Max Quittenton concludes: In addition to the seminars and the exhibition there will also be numerous opportunities for delegates, speakers and exhibitors to network, including several dedicated meeting spaces and VIP lounges where attendees can meet for business collaboration or simply catch up with friends. We re excited to build upon the momentum of this year and welcome an even larger, broader audience to the arena of physical activity, health and performance in 2017. BEE POLLEN

CIVILIZATION S MOST SACRED AND POWERFUL SUPERFOOD! Life begins with bee pollen.

Since the dawn of time, civilizations from around the globe have known about the power of bee pollen as a sacred source of energy, rejuvenation, longevity and healing. The ancient Greeks used it for increased stamina, and it was used as an energy enhancer even at the very first Olympic Games. The famous Greek physician and philosopher Hippocrates once said Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food , and bee pollen epitomises this philosophy perfectly. It was found in the tombs of the Pharaohs in ancient Egypt. The Aztecs wore vials filled with pollen around tZheir necks as a tonic, and it s still actively used in Chinese medicine.

What is pollen anyway?

These microscopic, dust sized granules are the genesis of all plant life, or the fertilizing element on the stamen of all flowering plants. As well as their obvious job of pollinating plants for reproduction, collect pollen to take back to the hive, where they feed it to young bees. What remains is collected for human consumption. Bee pollen is the richest source of nutrients found in nature in a single food. The list of nutrients is astounding. • 27 vitamins and amino acids • 28 minerals and antioxidants • 11 enzymes & co-enzymes • 24 Beneficial fatty acids • 11 carbohydrates Bee pollen is perfectly balanced by Mother Nature to feed your cells, and to re-energise and rejuvenate your life.

What can it do for you?

It provides nutritional support for your immune system, digestion, hair, skin and nails and can help to boost your energy and help your body to recover faster from strenuous exercise or illness. There are numerous scientific studies (just Google bee pollen!) showing the benefits of taking bee pollen every day.

Who can take bee pollen?

Why, everyone of course! It s the perfect natural multivitamin supplement. It can support the diet of young children who refuse to eat their greens. Just open the capsules and sprinkle the delicious contents on anything they eat or drink. Perfect in a smoothie, or on their cereal or toast. It s great for people from all walks of life, from busy working mums to seniors who could use a boost to their energy. Even celebrities love it...

Why Nature Bee Potentiated Bee Pollen?

Although pollen is granular in its raw form, the cell walls of pollen are incredible hard. Imagine a kernel of popcorn before it s been popped! We developed a unique process to rupture the tough cell walls to make the pollen more digestible. This allows your digestive juices to absorb the nutrients faster and more efficiently. Nature Bee Potentiated Bee Pollen is a pure, wholesome natural vegetable food in a capsule. It is NOT made in a laboratory and full of dead chemicals mixed with fillers and preservatives! Bee happy... bee healthy, become a bee pollen bee-liever. Find out how you can thrive from the hive and see our range of bee hive products. Visit our website www.naturebee.com or call 0808 234 6698 for more information. A new JW Marriott spa experience in Thailand

JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay is opening a Spa by JW on 25 January, 2017. Located within the vicinity of Rue de Lamarck, Spa by JW offers an oasis of relaxation, specially designed by architect Bill Bensley, who also designed the hotel. Mushrooms are a focus of the spa s design, with artwork and paintings of different mushroom species found throughout the building. Spa by JW will be the first spa in Vietnam to use Aromatherapy Associates products in their treatments; facilities include a VIP treatment room with its own sauna and steam room, seven treatment rooms, two reflexology rooms, two express treatment rooms, sauna and steam room and beauty salon.

The flagship of JW Marriott Hotels and Resorts in Vietnam, JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort and Spa is the first international luxury hotel brand on Phu Quoc island.

Guests can also take advantage of the Phu Quoc herbal bath, yoga, tai chi, meditation and chakra balancing, along with a selection of therapeutic programmes. Nestled in the beach of Bai Khem, JW Marriott Phu Quoc has 244 artistically unique rooms, suites, apartments and villas featuring Bensley s whimsical touches, combined with modern comfort and world-class service.

Cosmetic packaging can now be customised straight from mobile phone

Brands and consumers will be able to use the technology provided by E Ink and Texen to personalise a range of products from make-up to fragrances E Ink, a US-based ink technology company, and Texen, a packaging and solutions provider for the luxury cosmetics market, have announced a collaboration to bring personalised packaging solutions to cosmetic customers. The partnership aims to create customisable packaging displays for make-up compacts and perfume bottles. Brands and consumers will be able to enter words they want to appear on their products via a smartphone, which will then generate radio frequency signals, carrying both the information and energy needed to update the packaging. The E Ink display is powered by near field communications. With the rise of beauty on a micro scale, our partnership with E Ink looks to enable our cosmetic customers to be the first to offer customisable digital packaging, said Stéphane L Esprit, Innovation Manager at Texen. With E Ink s battery-free, thin, lightweight and durable technology, brands could enhance their packaging

without having to alter the shape and design of their packaging, truly making this solution a first for the industry. Consumers will be able to personalise products and write messages to gift recipients. The companies suggest that the innovation could also be used for targeted advertising and social media campaigns.

GWI launches new initiatives to focus on children, low-income communities and women

Westin unveils multi-million dollar wellness campaign

Children, women and low-income families are at the centre of three new initiatives launched by the Global Wellness Institute (GWI).

Westin Hotels & Resorts is calling on travellers to be mindful of their wellbeing while on the move as part of its multi-million dollar Let s Rise advertising campaign.

Wellness For Children ‒ chaired by Christine Clinton, president of International Spa & Salon Services ‒ aims to create awareness of the need for children and young people to be actively involved in their own wellness.

The campaign asks the question Will you get up, or will you rise? , and highlights the importance of wellbeing for hotel guests during the inevitable disruptions and the unpredictability of travel.

Through holistic practices of mindfulness, meditation, energy medicine, movement and nutrition, one project we want to move forward is creating a series of lesson plans that can be easily adapted to kindergarten and school programmes and youth services, said Clinton. We passionately believe that education is key to longterm health and wellness. By reaching our children in the formative years and teaching them the benefits of being healthy, we begin to reduce the risk of childhood obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

It will also demonstrate Westin s signature programmes ‒ such as the Heavenly Bed and Gear Lending workout, developed with New Balance ‒ which have been designed to embody the brand s Six Pillars of Wellbeing : sleep well, eat well, move well, feel well, work well, and play well.

The team plans to put together an age-appropriate, region-specific and culturally sensitive approach to the lesson plans. The Wellness in Low-Income Communities Initiative will focus on how low-income communities can enhance their strengths and address their challenges through evidence-based best practices in health. Chaired by Jennifer Cabe, a US-based wellness communications leader, the initiative also aims to help evaluate how to understand, communicate about, measure and advance wellness in low-income communities globally. Women in Leadership aims to encourage and promote Lean In Circles throughout the wellness industry, helping to ensure that future female leaders have a framework of support and motivation. Chaired by Sara Jones, managing director of Spa & Wellness Mexico magazine, the initiative is part of the wider Lean In non-profit organisation, which provides meeting plans, discussion points and content for motivation, innovation leadership and goal-setting. The initiative joins more than 900 Lean In partners across more than 20 industries in supporting women s leadership. The GWI had previously launched 16 initiatives, covering topics from career development to hot springs to wellness communities.

The launch of the marketing campaign follows the publication of a survey launched in partnership with StudyLogic, which revealed a shift towards wellbeing, leisure travel and reinventing business as priorities for today s travellers. Travellers in North America, Mexico, the UK, Germany, the United Arab Emirates and China were surveyed for the study. Let s Rise is perfectly positioned to connect with travellers as more of a rally-cry than a brand campaign, given today s over-scheduled and always-on culture, said Brian Povinelli, global brand leader, Westin Hotels & Resorts. Around the world, we are seeing travellers realigning their priorities to put their wellbeing first, and Westin is proud to empower our guests to rise to the occasion.

NATURE C SKINCARE RANGE INTRODUCING THE

USED BY THOUSANDS IN NEW ZEALAND, AUSTRALIA AND THE USA. NOW AVAILABLE IN THE UK Your skin is your body s largest organ, and commands the same level of care and attention as the organs we can t see. The condition of your skin depends on many factors. Genes, climate, age, hormones, nutrition, environment just to name a few. Some products are expensive and bear untold claims to being the fountain of eternal youth, but in essence, your skin will benefit the most by using products that are as close to natural as possible. The Nature Bee family of health and beauty products are based on simple, natural ingredients provided by Mother Nature, and in particular those ingredients that come from the bee hive. Almost all of our skincare range contains Manuka honey as a key element. The remarkable healing and rejuvenative powers of Manuka honey as an ingestible and a topical agent are well documented. Manuka honey comes from the Manuka bush which is native to New Zealand. The honey is graded according to its UMF (Unique Manuka Factor). The higher the number of its UMF, the more effective it is as a medicinal agent.

Many hospitals use the highest grade of Manuka honey as a highly effective way to treat burns and other skin conditions. The honey doesn t cling to dressings, and its own powerful chemistry facilitates healing of various skin conditions when other methods show less success. Our range of products contain Manuka honey, as well as various essential oils and other gentler ingredients which are not only kind to your skin, but show great results in reducing the visible signs of ageing like fine lines and wrinkles, crows s feet, dry skin, brown spots and more. Using our products will help your skin to regain and maintain a natural, radiant glow, without costing the earth. FEATURE PRODUCTS: TAKING THE STING OUT OF AGEING NATURE C BEE VENOM MASK: Celebrities like Kate Middleton, Victoria Beckham, Michelle Pfeiffer, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kylie Minogue are all reported to swear by bee venom cream. Bee venom is an alternative to painful expensive injectables and works by fooling the skin into thinking it has been stung. This slightly relaxes the facial muscles and stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, the building blocks of youthful, healthy skin. Use as a treatment mask, or under makeup to keep your skin glowing.

NATURE C PLUS 1-2-3 SKINCARE ROUTINE Everything you need for everyday skincare. This three-part routine includes an exfoliating cleanser, daily moisturiser and an overnight recovery complex. The ingredients are Alpha Hydroxyl Acids, Manuka honey and a blend of natural oils. GENTLE EYE GEL Often, the first obvious signs of ageing appear around the eyes, so the delicate skin around this area needs special attention. Our gentle eye gel is a deliciously soothing application which helps to combat puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles and dark circles. It s a must-have in any cosmetic bag. TIP: Even more effective if you chill before applying. To see more of our skincare range, visit our website www.naturebee.com or call 0808 234 6698 for more information.
